Sobibór – Train Connection and Memorial Site
Accommodation in Sobibór
When planning a trip to Sobibór, it is worth treating the train connection and memorial sites as separate planning topics. The seasonal train stops at Sobibór station at nearby Stacja Kolejowa Sobibór; the museum and memorial site are also in the surrounding area. This lets you plan your journey by date, while a visit to the sites of remembrance can be a separate focus.
Plan your train journey in summer
During the summer holidays, from the last weekend in June to the end of August, a train runs on the Chełm–Włodawa route on Saturdays and Sundays, stopping at Sobibór station at nearby Stacja Kolejowa Sobibór. It also runs on 15 August. The stated period, days of operation and additional date define the scope of this connection: if you want to travel by this train, your travel date must coincide with a day of operation. Check the current timetable before travelling, as the season and dates may change.
Museum, memorial site and Aleja Pamięci
A permanent exhibition about the Sobibór extermination camp and the fates of individual victims opened in October 2020 at the nearby Sobibór Museum and Memorial Site. If the exhibition is the reason for your trip, check in advance whether it is currently open to visitors.
The “Aleja Pamięci” (Avenue of Remembrance), established in 2003, is located on the grounds of the former camp in nearby Sobibór. The stones arranged along the avenue bear plaques with the names of people murdered at the camp, as well as information about particular groups of victims, their origins and history. The two sites therefore offer different ways to engage with the subject: the exhibition covers the camp and the fates of individual victims, while the plaques link names with information about victim groups, origins and history. The years mark two points in time: the “Aleja Pamięci” was established in 2003, and the permanent exhibition opened in October 2020.
Location and hotel planning
The museum and memorial site are in the nearby locality of Stacja Kolejowa Sobibór, on provincial road 812 or 816. If travelling by road, check the current access route before your visit. Nearby Sobibór-Stacja is also home to the Włodawa Forest District office and a chapel. To find your way when travelling, it helps to distinguish between Sobibór station, where the train stops, and the museum site in the locality of Stacja Kolejowa Sobibór.
If you plan to take the train, check that your travel date falls within the stated season and on a day of operation; if you plan to visit the museum and memorial site, check whether they are currently open to visitors and how to get there. Compare the location and availability of a specific hotel offer with your own travel plans, and verify the details directly with the provider. This way, you can choose accommodation based on what you actually plan to do.
