Janów Lubelski combines nature and leisure activities with a distinctive cultural heritage. Park Rekreacji ZOOM NATURY covers more than 10 hectares. Other attractions include a regional museum with indoor and outdoor exhibitions, the Marian Sanctuary, the historic Rynek Starego Miasta and the Janowskie Stoki natural monument. If you are looking for a hotel in Janów, you can plan your trip around whether you would rather focus on leisure activities, exhibitions or the town’s history.

Leisure Activities at Park Rekreacji ZOOM NATURY

The park includes Park Linowy, a high ropes course with three routes. The green route runs at a height of 3 to 8 metres and has 14 obstacles. The blue route has 16 obstacles. The red route is described as the most difficult, with 17 obstacles and a height of 8 to 12 metres. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their stated heights and number of obstacles.

Park Kreatywny has inflatable attractions, trampolines, a sandbox and foam elements for children aged 2 to 13. Other activities include an Exit Room with the rooms “Crazy 80s” and “The Enchanted Cellar”, Laser Tag using infrared beams, and Archer Tag. Archer Tag is a team game played with bows and arrows tipped with foam. The “Exotic Animals” workshop, where activity leaders introduce live animals, adds another option to the range of leisure and hands-on activities. When planning a trip with children, the stated age range for Park Kreatywny provides a useful guide.

Museums and Town History

The regional museum’s indoor and outdoor exhibitions are devoted to the historical and cultural heritage of the Janów area, the Lublin region and Poland. Its scope therefore extends from local heritage to the region and the Polish perspective. The museum also offers archaeological and ethnographic workshops, outdoor games and workshops with craftspeople.

The Museum of Photography in Janów Lubelski tells another story of collecting. It was registered in 2014 and has three exhibition rooms, a darkroom and a museum gallery. Rynek Starego Miasta adds a chapter of town history to museum visits: it was laid out according to a Renaissance plan inspired by the ideal city and based on the urban layout of Zamość. The square’s four fountains symbolise Janów’s traditional crafts.

Marian Sanctuary and Sacred Architecture

The Marian Sanctuary comprises a church and a Dominican monastery dating from 1694 to 1720, founded by the Zamoyski family. The Dominican Church of St John the Baptist retains its Baroque character. Its furnishings include Rococo altars and a Rococo pulpit, a 19-stop organ and a baptismal font dating from 1870.

The Sanctuary also includes the Chapel of the Apparition, which is frequently visited by pilgrims and tourists. It houses a 17th-century statue of the Virgin Mary and Child, with a spring rising beneath it. The chapel, church and monastery each highlight a different aspect of the religious heritage: Marian devotion, Baroque architecture and the church’s historic furnishings.

Nature and Regional Railway History

The Janowskie Stoki natural spring area is a unique natural monument in the centre of Janów Lubelski and a place associated with local customs. On the outskirts of town, next to the forestry administration headquarters, there is an open-air museum of the forest narrow-gauge railway. It adds a chapter in regional transport history to the nature and town themes.

Until 1952, the forest narrow-gauge railway connected Lipa with Biłgoraj and ran through the entire Janów Forests complex. A remaining section of the narrow-gauge railway in the forests was used until 1984, when rail operations there ceased. This history belongs to the wider area around Janów and can be understood as part of the local railway heritage at the open-air museum on the outskirts of town.
