If you are looking for a hotel in Wisznice, it is best to first decide what you want your trip to focus on. The cycling routes described differ in length and course; the town’s history includes a historic cemetery and a former Greek Catholic church. This lets you compare cycling routes, explore historical topics, or include both in your plans.

Cycling routes by length and course

The red cycling route is 24.9 kilometres long and runs from Wisznice via Dubica and Polubicze, then back via Dubica to Wisznice. The blue cycling route is the same length. It runs from Wisznice via Wygoda, Horodyszcze, Łyniew and Dołholiska back to Wisznice.

The red and blue routes are equal in length; you can distinguish them by the places named along the way. When comparing these two routes, the sequence of places is therefore a useful point of reference alongside the distance.

The green cycling route is 18.2 kilometres long and runs from Wisznice via Curyn, Rowiny, Curyn and Zacisze to Wisznice Kolonia. It is 6.7 kilometres shorter than the two routes, each of which is 24.9 kilometres long. Before setting out, check the local signage for this route.

The “Śladami Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego” cycling route runs from Wisznice via Rozwadówka, Motwica, Czeputka, Romanów, Sosnówka, Sapiehów and Żeszczynka, then back to Wisznice. The seven places named offer a distinct route for comparison. You can identify the route described here by its sequence of places, while distances are also provided for the red, blue and green routes.

Historic sites and their history

The historic cemetery in Wisznice was established around 1800 for the Uniate and Catholic parishes. It is considered a unique sacred structure of considerable artistic value. Its historical significance thus includes both its original purpose and its sacred and artistic value.

Members of the family of writer Józef Ignacy Kraszewski are buried in the cemetery: his grandparents Anna and Błażej Malscy, his mother Zofia z Malskich Kraszewska, and his brothers Lucjan and Kajetan Kraszewscy. The family relationships specified range from grandparents to mother to brothers, making the family connection concrete.

There was also a wooden chapel in the historic cemetery. In the mid-19th century, it was intended to be replaced by a brick building, but the latter was never completed. The planned replacement should therefore be distinguished from the chapel that actually stood in the cemetery.

A different building history concerns the former Greek Catholic church in Wisznice. It was renovated in 2009–2010 and converted into a Christian Cultural Centre. Unlike the unfinished chapel replacement, this describes a completed renovation and conversion.

For your trip planning, you can distinguish these different periods: the establishment of the cemetery around 1800, the uncompleted plan for a brick chapel replacement in the mid-19th century, and the renovation of the former church in 2009–2010. The cycling routes and local history offer two different focuses to consider when looking for a hotel in Wisznice.
