Biegoszów is a small village in the eastern Kaczawskie Foothills, also known as the Złotoryja Foothills. It lies at an elevation of about 260 to 299 metres above sea level in a narrow valley of a left-bank tributary of the Wilcza. This means two themes stand out when choosing the area: a largely preserved ensemble of residential and farm buildings, and a village history spanning several centuries.

Landscape and Location

The valley setting shapes Biegoszów’s geographical character. South and east of the village are mainly spruce forests, interspersed with beech and other deciduous trees. The immediate surroundings also include basalt quarries. Together, the valley, forests and basalt quarries shape the landscape around Biegoszów.

A local road from Świerzawa to Wilków runs through the Biegoszów valley. If travelling by bus, another point is important: the municipal strategy for 2026–2035 states that there is currently no bus stop in operation in Biegoszów. Check current connections before travelling so you can plan your journey based on the options available for your visit.

A Village History Spanning Several Centuries

Biegoszów was established in the mid-14th century. The village never had a church; its residents belonged to the estates and parish of Nowy Kościół. This religious affiliation is part of the village’s history, even though the village itself had no church building of its own. In the 16th century, Biegoszów was associated with a peasant revolt against the then lord of the manor, von Leist. The village later developed into an important centre of Protestantism.

The history of mining in the area provides another point of reference: copper ores were prospected near Biegoszów in the 18th century. This prospecting was connected with the development of mining and smelting in nearby Leszczyna.

Architectural Ensemble and Heritage Project

The nearly complete ensemble of residential and farm buildings plays a special role in the village’s character. It has largely been preserved in its original form, without major alterations. The appeal of the built heritage lies in this unified collection: residential and farm buildings together form part of Biegoszów’s traditional character, rather than being merely separate, unrelated structures.

A heritage project documented in 2020, entitled “Gozdno i Biegoszów – poznajemy dzieje, odkrywamy tajemnice” (“Gozdno and Biegoszów – exploring their history, discovering their secrets”), included an interactive walk through the villages. As part of the project, Mieczysław Hajder guided participants to eight important places connected with the history of Gozdno and Biegoszów. The former school building in Biegoszów was also marked on the project map. The walk and map were part of the project as documented in 2020 and describe its scope at that time.

Choosing Biegoszów as a Destination

These different themes offer you several ways to choose the area: its historic architectural ensemble, the development of the village since the 14th century, or its valley setting among forests and other landscape features. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Biegoszów, consider which of these highlights best matches your travel interests. The village’s history and valley landscape help describe Biegoszów as a destination.
