Several themes are central to planning a trip to Bogatynia: its half-timbered houses, the town’s history, its churches and seasonal leisure activities. This can help you decide which aspects of the town are especially interesting for your stay.

Half-timbered Houses and Architectural History

Bogatynia grew from the old Lusatian street village of Rychłów, which lay along the Miedzianka. This river is a right-bank tributary of the Lusatian Neisse. The *Umgebinde* and log-construction style, also known as the Lusatian style, is considered an architectural landmark of Bogatynia. Lusatian half-timbered architecture using post-and-beam and log construction also defines Bogatynia and the surrounding villages; it is characteristic of 17th- and 18th-century architecture.

One specific example is the Lusatian *Umgebinde* house at Aleja Żytawska 32 in the historic centre. It was built in the first half of the 19th century. When placing it in context, it is worth noting the distinction: the region’s half-timbered architecture is associated with the 17th and 18th centuries, while this house dates from the first half of the 19th century. The Open *Umgebinde* Houses Day takes place every year on the last Sunday in May and puts this building style in the spotlight. If this is a key part of your trip, the recurring event can provide a useful point of reference for timing your visit.

Churches and Local History

The churches also reflect different historical periods. The Church of the Immaculate Conception was built in 1868 by the Cistercian Order as a monastery church. St Peter and Paul is a Baroque church with remnants of an earlier Gothic church. Its furnishings include a rich collection of 17th- and 18th-century epitaphs. Bogatynia thus has both a 19th-century building and a church with Baroque and Gothic architectural history; the epitaphs add another historical dimension to the latter.

Aleja Żytawska, formerly Waryńskiego Street, reveals another layer of the town’s history. It was almost completely destroyed in the 2010 flood and subsequently underwent extensive renovation. The work covered the road surface, pavements, lighting and street furniture. This story links a specific event to the elements of the subsequent renewal, rather than defining the street only by its former name.

Culture and Leisure

The Bogatyński Ośrodek Kultury hosts competitions, performances and concerts, while film screenings take place at the “Kadr 3D” cinema. The stage and the cinema thus offer different cultural formats. If events are important to your travel dates, check the relevant schedules as you plan.

The Aquatynia leisure pool opened in 2025. Its summer-season facilities include water slides and outdoor leisure activities for families. There is a shallow children’s pool and colourful slides, including a double slide and the “Słonik” slide. Next to the pool are a sunbathing lawn with shade sails and a sand area for recreational and sporting games with friends. Water, a place to relax and space for games are thus different elements of the seasonal offer. If you plan to visit Aquatynia, check the seasonal opening hours before your visit.
