Sokołowsko: Spa history, culture and hiking
Accommodation in Sokołowsko
You can plan a stay in Sokołowsko around several specific interests: spa history, culture at the Kinoteatr Zdrowie, and activities on foot, by mountain bike or in workshops. If you are looking for a hotel, first consider which focus will shape your trip. The places and activities differ in terms of history, cultural program and activities, so you can choose your destination to match your travel plans.
Spa history and buildings
The spa's history can be clearly placed in time. In the second half of the 19th century, spa and tourism activities developed rapidly. The climatic station, and later the spa, became the most important health and tourism center. Until 1946, the place was called Gorbersdorf. This gives two points of reference: the development in the second half of the 19th century and the former place name used until 1946.
The House of Saint Elizabeth in Sokołowsko's spa park was formerly the Willa Elsa guesthouse. Its former use makes it a specific example of the spa's history. The artificial Grota Hermana is located in a spa park near the destination.
The remains of Dr. Brehmer's neo-Gothic treatment building are also part of the town's history. They are currently being rebuilt by the Fundacja Sztuki Współczesnej In Situ; a laboratory for contemporary art is planned there. Check on the current progress of the reconstruction before visiting.
Culture at the Kinoteatr Zdrowie
The Kinoteatr Zdrowie was formerly part of Dr. Brehmer's sanatorium complex and today houses a café, a bookshop, a souvenir shop and a cinema. As an arthouse cinema, it is also a place for discussing film; workshops, lectures and discussions are also part of its cultural program. If a screening is central to your visit, check the current program. Before visiting, it is also worth checking the operator's website to account for any changes to the facilities.
Hiking trail, mountain biking and workshops
The Główny Szlak Sudecki im. Mieczysława Orłowicza passes through Sokołowsko; the local description highlights it as the region's most important hiking trail. The Zielona Mieroszów mountain bike route starts at a parking lot in the village, not far from the Punkt Certyfikowany Roadosno. The activity therefore determines which route to choose: one point of reference is a hiking trail through the town, while the other is the start of a mountain bike route in the village.
The workshops offered by the Dzika Owca manufactory in Sokołowsko provide another activity. They include soap making, ceramics and candle making. If you have a particular craft activity in mind, you can choose between these three topics; check workshop availability directly with the organizer.
