Głuszyca: Mountain Landscapes, MTB and Culture
Accommodation in Głuszyca
Głuszyca is located in the Upper Bystrzyca Valley at an elevation of 420 to 936 metres above sea level. The Owl, Stone and Wałbrzych Mountains surround the town. You can choose from different activities during your stay: cycling routes and a named hiking trail sit alongside historic buildings and leisure facilities. If you are looking for a hotel in Głuszyca, start by considering which of these activities you want to shape your trip.
MTB trails and cycling competitions
Strefa MTB Głuszyca comprises 150 kilometres of cycling routes across six trails. These connect to Czech and Polish MTB Sudety trails. The number of trails and their connections to the MTB Sudety trails offer different points of reference for planning: you can focus on one of the six routes or take the network of connections into account when planning your rides. Trail conditions may change; check them before setting out.
Recurring cycling competitions are also held in Głuszyca, including the Sudety MTB Challenge and the Trek Extreme MTB Challenge. If you want to plan your trip around a competition, check the dates of each event separately. This will help you decide between planning your own ride on the MTB trails and staying for a specific competition.
Hiking and architectural history
For hikers, a specific route is named: the yellow trail “Głuszyca PKP – Schronisko PTTK Andrzejówka – Golińsk Przejście graniczne” runs from Głuszyca via Grzmiąca, Zamek Rogowiec, Skalna Brama, Schronisko PTTK Andrzejówka, Waligóra and Sokołowsko. The sequence of places brings the route to life and sets it apart from the choice of six MTB trails. As route descriptions and paths may change, check them before setting out.
The town’s architectural history also offers several specific points of interest. The observation tower at the Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland was built in the early 19th century next to a Protestant church dating from 1741. The former factory owner’s palace, dating from 1894, also stands in Jordanowski Park and was entered in the register of monuments in 1955. At the church and tower, two neighbouring buildings from different periods are the focus; for the palace, the year it was built and its later entry in the register are separate historical points of reference.
Park, swimming pools and getting there
Jordanowski Park is a recreational area with a playground and skatepark. The former factory owner’s palace is also in the park, bringing leisure facilities and a historic building together. Głuszyca’s municipal outdoor swimming pool has a large pool, a medium-sized pool, a paddling pool and a volleyball court. The “Delfinek” indoor pool at Szkoła Podstawowa nr 3 on ul. Kolejowa has a dry sauna and a whirlpool. If swimming is part of your plans, check the latest opening hours and access information before your visit.
For train travel, Głuszyca railway station is a useful point of reference. Koleje Dolnośląskie trains stop there on the Wrocław Główny–Głuszyca and Wałbrzych Miasto–Kudowa-Zdrój routes. Check the current timetable before departure, as train services may change.
