Tarczyn: Landscape, Hiking and History
Accommodation in Tarczyn
Tarczyn combines a strong connection to its landscape with a hiking trail, historic buildings and local plant activities. The village is situated on the 422-metre-high Tarczynka Hill and within the Bóbr Valley Landscape Park. From Tarczyn, you can see the Karkonosze Mountains, the Kaczawskie Mountains and the Isergebirge-Kaczawskie Foothills. The landscape and elevation are therefore central to a visit, while the village’s history offers further points to consider when planning your trip.
Landscape and Hiking Trail
The yellow hiking trail from Nowy Ląd to Świerzawa passes through Tarczyn. The village is therefore part of a clearly identified hiking route. If hiking is the focus of your stay, the trail offers a specific point of reference for your plans.
A separate viewpoint is located on the road from Wleń to Tarczyn. From there, you can see the town of Wleń and Castle Hill (Góra Zamkowa). The two views are easy to distinguish: from Tarczyn, you can see mountain ranges and the foothills; the viewpoint on the road offers views of Wleń and Castle Hill. This means the landscape around Tarczyn and the view of the town of Wleń offer two distinct impressions.
Local History and Preserved Buildings
A chapel stands in the centre of Tarczyn. Farm buildings from the early 19th century have also been preserved. These buildings give the village a historical character that dates from a different period than Tarczyn’s earliest recorded mention: the village was first mentioned in 1390. At that time, Konrad and Anna Zedlitz acquired land there.
An even earlier layer of history can also be seen in Tarczyn: a remnant of buildings from the period of the Wleń castellany in the 12th and first half of the 13th century. Together, the chapel, farm buildings and this older trace offer different historical perspectives on Tarczyn.
Plant Activities and Cultural Programme
KGW Tilia Tarczyn offers workshops on local plants and herbal medicine. If you would like to attend a workshop, check the event calendar before your trip for suitable dates. This makes it easy to plan this potential activity as part of your stay.
The FLOWLAND art picnic is also among Tarczyn’s cultural attractions. The ninth edition in 2025 featured an exhibition, a concert, a fair, talks and walks. These activities relate to that edition; for a future trip, check the current event dates rather than planning around past activities as though they were part of a future programme.
Planning Your Stay
For a workshop or event, by contrast, the specific dates are important for planning. This distinction helps you separate the lasting impressions of the village from activities scheduled for particular dates and plan your stay around your interests.
