Discover Góra: Towers, Churches and Nature Trails
Accommodation in Góra
Historic Buildings in Góra
The Głogowska Tower is a defensive tower dating from the 15th century, located next to the former Głogowska Gate. Since its revitalization, it has served as a viewpoint. Sections of the medieval defensive walls have also been preserved; they follow the original line of the fortifications. This means the town’s history can be read not only in individual buildings, but also in the layout of its former defenses.
Another viewpoint is the historic water tower. A flag on the tower bears the year 1915; it was revitalized in 2021. Check the current access rules before visiting the viewpoints.
The church in Góra is Gothic, with a Baroque interior. The present building dates from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. The Corpus Christi Church and its Calvary offer a different religious focus: the complex is considered a valuable pilgrimage site in Poland. Góra is therefore home to different periods and forms of religious architecture.
Walking, Cycling and Running Trails
The 15-kilometer Jastrząb walking and cycling trail starts in Góra and passes through Stara Góra, Rogów Górowski, Osetno and Gola Górowska before reaching Jastrzębie. It combines walking and cycling along a route with clearly named stops. If you are looking for a route for a particular activity, the details about the shorter trails may also be useful.
There are three easy nature trails in the Góra municipality, suitable for hiking, cycling, running and Nordic walking. These trails have no steep climbs. A separate running route is ten kilometers long; it starts opposite the municipal swimming pool in Góra and runs mostly along forest paths between Góra and Ryczeń.
Another option is a 7.8-kilometer educational forest trail, which starts near Góra and leads to the Barycz Reservoir near Ryczeń. Along the way, there are 19 educational stations and three rest areas. Unlike the running route, the focus here is on the educational trail and its stations. When planning, you can therefore choose between a designated running route, trails for various activities, and a trip with educational stations. Trail conditions may change; check them before setting out.
The Barycz Valley and Forest Landscape
The section of the Barycz Valley near Góra is protected as a Natura 2000 site. Birds observed there include grey herons, cranes, black storks, white-tailed eagles, kingfishers, terns and ducks. Sightings are seasonal. If birdwatching is a particular interest, take this into account when choosing when to travel.
The forests of the Góra municipality also have a distinctive character: pine forests predominate. The landscape includes inland dune ecosystems with common juniper, which are considered valuable for nature conservation. The forest and river valley thus offer different ways to enjoy a stay focused on nature and the landscape.
For a canoe trip on the Barycz, you can launch at Sądowel, which is accessible from Góra via Wierzowice Wielkie. The launch site has a landing stage, a shelter, toilets, a fire area and seating. Check access and the condition of the facilities before setting off.
