Explore Pabianice through its different eras and places: religious buildings, a Renaissance manor house with a museum, industrial architecture, and parks and riverside spaces each offer a distinct focus. When planning your trip, you can first consider whether you are particularly interested in architectural history and collections, or would rather focus on the named open spaces. The city’s transport options are also a practical part of finding your way around.

Architecture and History in Pabianice

The Church of Saint Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist and Saint Lawrence the Martyr combines late Gothic and Renaissance forms with a Baroque interior. It was built between 1583 and 1588. The combination of these styles makes the building an example of several architectural influences in one place.

Another Renaissance landmark is the manor house, colloquially known as “Zamek.” It is considered a unique and valuable monument of 16th-century Polish architecture; the building houses the Museum of the City of Pabianice. Its collection includes prehistoric, medieval and modern-era artefacts from Pabianice. These include a coin hoard from the 16th to 18th centuries, originating from the Renaissance manor house. The collection’s wide time span gives the museum a different dimension from the history of the house as a single building.

Religious buildings from the 19th century mark other points in time. The mausoleum of the Kindler family, built in 1911, is preserved in the Evangelical-Augsburg Cemetery. The Evangelical-Augsburg Church of Saints Peter and Paul dates from 1827 and was consecrated and opened for worship in 1832. The dates distinguish the church’s construction from its later consecration; the mausoleum’s construction year marks a separate chapter in the city’s history.

The former Baruch Factory adds industrial architecture to this picture. The building complex is located on Lipowa Street, between Zamkowa and Grobelna, and is typical of the industrial architecture of the Łódź region. Together with the manor house and churches, it illustrates the variety of architectural themes preserved in Pabianice: Renaissance architecture, religious buildings and a former factory complex represent different eras and functions.

Parks, the River and a Walking Route

The waterside and green spaces each have their own connection to the Dobrzynka. The historic Juliusz Słowacki Park by the river was established in 1901. The “Lewityn” leisure centre lies in the south of Pabianice, around water basins and by the Dobrzynka River. This makes it possible to distinguish a historic city park from a leisure centre by water basins, without conflating their respective features.

The regulated main channel of the Dobrzynka offers another riverside point of reference. It runs along the edge of a promenade called “bulwary,” which connects Marchlewskiego and Grobelna Streets. Here, the name refers to the riverside promenade; Juliusz Słowacki Park and “Lewityn” each have their own described connections to the water.

If you would like to explore Pabianice on foot through a particular theme, the “Śladami Wielokulturowości Pabianic” route is designed for a walk through traces of the city’s different cultures and religions. Its approach differs from focusing solely on construction dates: it draws attention to Pabianice’s cultural and religious heritage. In this way, it complements the individual churches and the mausoleum with a broader walking theme, without specifying a particular route length or walking time.

Transport and Stay Planning

Pabianice is served by a railway line, a tram line to Łódź and an extensive bus network. When planning your trip, you can consider these transport options alongside your interests in architecture, urban history or the named open spaces. The connections that matter for your stay will depend on your own plans.
