Discover Tuszyn: Culture, History and Oceanik
Accommodation in Tuszyn
Tuszyn offers urban history, routes through and around the town, and a wellness focus at the Oceanik indoor swimming pool. Plac Reymonta is in the center; the Church of the Parish of Saint Vitus the Martyr and the Jewish Cemetery also have their own histories.
Plac Reymonta in the center
Plac Reymonta is a central landmark in Tuszyn and the setting for important town celebrations. These include anniversaries of the adoption of the Constitution of May 3, the town’s Christmas celebration, and celebrations marking Tuszyn’s 550th and 600th anniversaries. The various occasions give the square a role in the town’s public life.
The history of transport is also rooted here: in 1931, the terminus of tram line 42 was established at Plac Reymonta. The line ran between Łódź and Tuszyn from 1916 to 1978. A memorial stone in the square commemorates the 60th anniversary of Władysław Stanisław Reymont being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Church and Jewish Cemetery
The Church of the Parish of Saint Vitus the Martyr was built in 1860–1862. In 1927, it was extended in simplified neo-Romanesque forms to a design by Oskar Sosnowski. Its construction history therefore comprises two clearly distinguishable phases. The main altar contains an image of the Mother of God known as Tuszyńska; the furnishings include an old mechanical pipe organ and three bronze bells.
A memorial stone and an information board mark the Jewish Cemetery in Tuszyn. Together with the parish church, these sites offer different points of reference for the town’s religious and historical past.
Culture and routes
The Miejskie Centrum Kultury im. Wł. St. Reymonta organizes cultural and entertainment events in the Gmina Tuszyn. Another way to explore the town’s history is the “Dzieje Tuszyna – szlakiem zabytków” questing trail, which runs through Tuszyn.
Other routes run around the town. Two sections of the 184 km Szlak Okrężny Wokół Łodzi hiking trail circle Tuszyn for a total of 38 km. The Łódzki Szlak Konny also partly runs around Tuszyn. Another route starts at Primary School No. 1 in Tuszyn and is about 28 km long. This distinguishes a route through the town from routes that run in the surrounding area.
Oceanik indoor swimming pool
The Oceanik indoor swimming pool includes a salt cave and a graduation tower. The sauna area is open Monday to Friday from 2:00 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 10:00 a.m. Arrangements by phone can be made in advance for other times. If you plan to use the sauna area, take these hours into account when planning your visit.
Tuszyn-Las and the garden city plan
The history of the settlement is also part of Tuszyn’s character: the Tuszyn-Las garden city project provided for four parks, named after J. Piłsudskiego, J. Kilińskiego, Wolności, and Olszynki.
