Nowe Bystre: Valley, Hamlets and Culture
Accommodation in Nowe Bystre
Nowe Bystre lies in a valley along the Bystrego stream. When planning a trip, the hamlets, local culture and trails are also of interest, alongside the landscape. The church, chapels and cultural traditions offer further specific points of interest in the village.
Landscape and Trails
The hamlets of Dutkówka, Kule and Słodyczki are part of Nowe Bystre. They are situated on the heights of the western slope, while the village itself lies in the valley along the Bystrego stream. This makes the valley and the hillside distinct geographical reference points. A cycling route passes through Dutkówka. For cycling plans, Dutkówka is therefore a specific point of reference; the other two hamlets add to the picture of the western heights.
The hiking section between Gubałówka (1,123 m) and Nowe Bystre (828 m) is listed as 3 km and 45 minutes. The elevations of the endpoints differ by 295 m. Dutkówka is the main point of reference for the cycling route, while for the hike you can use the endpoints, distance and time to plan your trip. Check current trail conditions before setting out. 45 minutes is three-quarters of an hour.
Religious Buildings and Cultural Heritage
The people of Nowe Bystre built the wooden Church of St John the Baptist in 1877. The year of construction, material and dedication describe different aspects of the building: its structure, religious affiliation and date of construction. Numerous wayside chapels are also considered worth seeing. The village is thus home to both a single historic church building and many other religious landmarks.
The ethnographic Szlak Dziedzictwa Kulturowego Podtatrza (Podtatrze Cultural Heritage Trail) also passes through Nowe Bystre. The cultural trail has a different focus from the church and wayside chapels: it is dedicated to ethnographic cultural heritage, while the buildings represent specific examples of religious architecture. If you would like to include it in your tour, check the current condition of the route beforehand.
Local Culture and Events
At the “Mali Bystrzanie” ensemble, children and young people learn to dance and sing under the guidance of instructors. The focus here is on guided activities centred on music and dance. Women from Nowe Bystre are known, among other things, for płucki na kwaśno and caraway soup. These dishes add a distinct culinary dimension alongside the architectural and musical attractions.
Events also provide useful dates for planning. Every year, the rally Szlakami Oddziału Partyzanckiego Wojciecha Duszy „Szaroty“ ends in Nowe Bystre. A family picnic with numerous activities for children is held in summer. The rally takes place annually, while the picnic is associated with the summer season. If you would like to plan your trip around either event, check the exact date beforehand.
