Jordanów offers several clearly distinct points of interest to consider when planning your trip. Three marked PTTK hiking trails cross in the town; at the same time, Neo-Gothic architecture, an art gallery and memorial sites shape the range of interests you can explore. When choosing your destination, you can therefore decide whether hiking, architectural history, art or historical remembrance should be your priority. The market square ensemble, the Stara Chałupa collection and the memorial sites each offer a different way to discover Jordanów.

Neo-Gothic Architecture on the Market Square

On the market square, three notable brick buildings together with the nearby parish church form an ensemble of Neo-Gothic urban architecture dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. For an architectural focus, it is therefore not only individual buildings that matter, but the ensemble formed by the three brick buildings and the parish church. Their shared stylistic classification and the time span provide a concrete framework for viewing the buildings together. The church is part of the ensemble and is located near the three brick buildings.

Art and Craftsmanship at Stara Chałupa

The “Stara Chałupa” at 32 Gen. Maczka Street offers a different cultural perspective. The gallery of Renata and Stanisław Starzec is housed in a building over 100 years old. Its collection includes old equipment, furniture and tools, including the complete fittings of a saddler’s workshop. Also on display are sculptures by Stanisław Starzec in his own style and paintings by Renata Starzec. Thus, objects rooted in craftsmanship and works by the two artists appear as distinct parts of the collection. This sets it apart from the Neo-Gothic architecture on the market square: here, the focus is on the collection, art and the workshop’s fittings. If you plan a visit, check visiting arrangements in advance.

Memorial Sites with Different Associations

On Piłsudskiego Street, a memorial stone marks the site of the former house where Blessed priest Piotr Dańkowski was born. Dańkowski was one of the martyrs of the Second World War. A wayside chapel on Gen. Maczka Street contains a Pietà figure dating from 1833. At Na Zakrętach in Jordanów, another memorial stone stands near the place where Germans shot about 70 Jews on August 28, 1942. These memorial sites refer to different subjects of remembrance: a person’s life, a figure in a chapel and a historical event. Local remembrance therefore encompasses both personal and communal memory.

Hiking Trails as a Separate Reason to Visit

Three marked PTTK hiking trails cross in Jordanów. This adds an independent focus on hiking alongside architecture and culture. If you are planning a specific hike, check trail conditions in advance. The marked trails offer a different focus from the buildings, gallery and memorial sites; when choosing your destination, you can weigh these interests separately.

The topics mentioned offer different points of interest without requiring a shared itinerary.
