Tylmanowa combines the Dunajec Gorge with the landscape of the Pasmo Radziejowej range and a village character shaped by historic buildings and memorial sites. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay here, distinguishing between these themes can help you plan your trip: you can focus on the river landscape, nature, or local history.

River Landscape and Hiking Trails

In Tylmanowa, the Dunajec cuts through a gorge with two narrowings in the valley below Kłodne and Wietrznica. These distinctive landforms give this stretch of the river a distinctive landscape character.

The section of Poprad Landscape Park within Tylmanowa includes the eastern slopes of the Pasmo Radziejowej range above cultivated fields. Recommended trails for experiencing the park’s natural environment include the yellow hiking trail along the Pasmo Radziejowej range.

Another trail description concerns Hiking Route 5, which passes through the settlements of Króle and Klępy. The two descriptions have different focuses: the yellow trail relates to the Pasmo Radziejowej range and experiencing nature in the park, while Route 5 passes through the two settlements. This can help you decide in advance whether to plan your hike around the landscape or the places mentioned. As trail conditions can change, it is worth checking their current status before setting out.

Settlement History and Historic Sites

A founding charter dating from 1336 documents the settlement history of Tylmanowa. Later historic buildings include the Neoclassical Berski Manor House, built in 1840; remnants of its associated park have been preserved. The manor house is currently not open to visitors and can only be viewed from the outside. At the Wiejski Ośrodek Kultury in Tylmanowa, the exhibition “Tylmanowskie Wspomnienia” features photographs showing the manor house’s historic appearance, including its interiors. Check the exhibition’s current availability before visiting.

St. Nicholas Church was built between 1757 and 1760. Historic groups of wooden buildings have been preserved on the eastern bank of the Dunajec, including in the settlements of Króle and Klępy. They form a historic settlement landscape dating from the second half of the 18th century. Together, these sites offer several points of reference for exploring Tylmanowa’s architectural history, from the church and wooden ensembles to the 19th-century manor house.

At Króle, on the Dunajec, there was a binduga—a place for binding and floating timber—which operated for several centuries. Króle is also home to a more than 150-year-old farmstead in its original condition. It comprises a dwelling house, granary, stable, and barn. The farmstead is privately owned and not open to visitors; it can only be viewed from the outside.

Kalwaria Tylmanowska on Basta Hill was established in the 1980s. In the forest on Wietrznice Hill, above the settlement of Rzeki, clear remnants of Polish trenches from the September Campaign of 1939 have been preserved. Another reminder of the area’s history is the pedestrian bridge over the Dunajec in the village center. It leads to the settlements of Wybrańce and Górzany. Engineer Stuczek designed it in 1979; it was built as a thank-you to the residents of Tylmanowa for their help hiding people during the occupation.
