Wielkie Leźno combines a lake landscape with cycling and hiking opportunities and a village setting shaped by history. The village lies wholly or partly within Górznieńsko-Lidzbarski Landscape Park. Wielkie Leźno and Małe Leźno lie in scenic surroundings between two lakes on the edge of the Brodnica Lake District. This makes the focus of your stay a key consideration when choosing a hotel in Wielkie Leźno: the lake, a cycling route, a hiking trail or the village’s historic layout.

Lakes and water

Jezioro Wielkie Leźno is a moraine lake covering an area of 92.4 hectares. It is up to 4.1 metres deep, with an average depth of 0.8 metres. The shores are generally shallow, and the slopes of the lake basin are gently inclined. It is important to distinguish between the depth figures: 4.1 metres is the maximum depth, while 0.8 metres is the average. In Górznieńsko-Lidzbarski Landscape Park, Leźno Wielkie is among the lakes considered particularly clean.

Fishing and rules on the lake

Jezioro Wielkie Leźno is a fishing lake for pike; perch can also be caught between its two islands. The reference to pike applies to the lake, while the reference to perch applies to the area between the islands. The use of combustion engines on the lake is prohibited. Check this rule locally before taking part in a water-based activity, as regulations may change. Permitted uses are also among the practical points to consider when planning your trip.

Gravel route and hiking trail

The 68-kilometre “GLPK Gravel 2024” gravel route also passes through Wielkie Leźno. Another option for planning a trip is the 44-kilometre blue Górzno–Bachotek hiking trail. It passes Małe Leźno and Wielkie Leźno lakes and continues on to Zembrze. The route lengths can be compared: the hiking trail is 24 kilometres shorter than the gravel route. You can also choose between two different types of activity: a gravel route or a hiking trail.

Historic village setting

Wielkie Leźno is one of the villages with well-preserved historic settlement layouts and has a street-oriented settlement pattern. The settlement layout draws attention to the village’s historic spatial arrangement; “street-oriented” describes the structure of the settlement. The historic wooden houses in the village include House No. 12, dating from the second half of the 19th century, and House No. 24, dating from the first quarter of the 20th century. The houses may be privately occupied. Wielkie Leźno also has a brick roadside shrine dedicated to Our Lady, dating from the second quarter of the 20th century. A dated reference to the village’s history takes us further back: in 1410, Wielkie Leźno was the property of the Chełmno Chapter.

Wielkie Leźno therefore offers several points to consider when planning your trip: the lake’s dimensions and shoreline, the different route lengths, information about fishing opportunities and a village setting with a historic settlement structure. You can use these themes as a guide when looking for a hotel and planning your stay.
