When choosing Brodnicki as a travel destination, you can start by distinguishing between two main attractions: the protected landscape and its opportunities for outdoor activities, and individual historic buildings. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, this distinction can help you decide in advance what interests you most: landscape and outdoor pursuits on the one hand, architectural and transport history on the other.

Protected landscapes on different scales

The part of the OChK Doliny Drwęcy located in the rural Gmina Brodnica covers 4,893.53 hectares. The Gmina includes a substantial part of this protected area, whose ecologically valuable features include river valleys and lake channels. The Brodnicki Landscape Park covers a total of 17,000 hectares and extends across the Kuyavian-Pomeranian and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships. The Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship accounts for 12,349 hectares, while the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship accounts for 4,336 hectares. The park extends across six municipalities: Zbiczno, Jabłonowo Pomorskie, Brodnica, Brzozie, Biskupiec Pomorski and Kurzętnik.

The area figures refer to different geographical scales: one concerns a section of the OChK within the rural Gmina, while the other refers to the entire park. The latter extends across six municipalities and two voivodeships. This allows the local landscape figures and the park spanning several municipalities to be understood as different perspectives on the region.

Activities and designated routes

In the Brodnicki Landscape Park, hiking, kayaking and cycling are possible within the Gmina Brodnica. In addition, hiking, cycling, canoeing and educational trails have been designated in the Gmina. The activity information refers to the park within the Gmina, while the designated trail types refer to the Gmina. Check local conditions and individual routes in advance when planning specific outings. The options range from outdoor activities to various designated trail types; educational trails complement the hiking, cycling and canoeing routes.

Architectural and transport history

The parish church pw. św. św. Fabiana i Sebastiana is a Gothic stone church dating from the first half of the 14th century and has been protected since 1936. Its date places its construction in the first half of the 14th century; its protected status provides a distinctly later historical reference point, beginning in 1936.

The historic steel-girder bridge in Szabda over the Drwęca lies on the boundary with the town of Brodnica. It was built in 1952, is listed under monument number A/1351, and is a remnant of the Brodnica–Ostrowite narrow-gauge railway. Medieval church architecture and the history of a narrow-gauge railway thus represent distinct themes in construction and engineering.

Further historical references

The Gmina Brodnica Harvest Festival was first held in 2005 and continued to be organized through its twelfth edition. A notice from 2021 gives 25 July as the date of the official opening of the combined pedestrian and cycle path from Brodnica to Osiek. These details complement the buildings with references to event history and transport infrastructure.
