The Puszcza Bydgoska forest complex defines the northern and northeastern parts of Aleksandrów Kujawski. It consists mainly of mixed forests and pure pine stands. Along the Tążyna, the landscape is natural and closely associated with a riparian forest habitat. The forest and riverbanks thus represent two distinct connections to nature in the area.

Nature and Protected Trees

The “Świerczyna” nature and educational trail lies within the administrative boundaries of Aleksandrów Kujawski and is 2.5 kilometres long. Its clearly defined length gives you a specific point of reference for planning your day; check local conditions before your visit. Individual groups of trees also make the area’s natural features tangible: the grounds of Zespół Szkół Nr 1 Centrum Kształcenia Praktycznego are home to twelve protected natural monuments: one linden and eleven oaks.

You’ll find another group in the park at the Trojanowski Palace, where eleven oaks are recognised as natural monuments. The palace itself is designated as a tourist attraction. Because of its attractive location and varied vegetation, the palace and park grounds are considered suitable for family walks. A visit to the palace therefore also provides a specific reason to include the surrounding grounds in your plans.

The Railway Station and Historical Traces

The railway station complex is part of the city’s cultural heritage and is linked to its development as a Russian–Prussian border station. The original station building was constructed in 1860–1862. In February 1863, secret diplomatic correspondence concerning Russian–Prussian cooperation against the Polish uprising was seized at the station. These dates take you from the station’s construction history to an event that took place there shortly afterwards.

The restored station building houses the municipal tourist information point and the Aleksandrowska Izba Historyczna. The Izba preserves memorabilia relating to the history of Aleksandrów Kujawski. Check current opening hours before visiting. The station is located at 2 Wojska Polskiego Street, 87-700 Aleksandrów Kujawski, and is accessible to people with reduced mobility. If this access is important for your journey, confirm its current status before you travel.

Other sites in the city highlight different aspects of its history. The parish Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was built in the Neo-Gothic style; it houses the 17th-century “Crucifixion” painting from the Italian school. The former Salesian College dates from 1913–1916 and 1927. The Ukrainian Military Cemetery on Narutowicza Street was entered in the register of monuments on 7 June 1995. A monument to Polish aviators and a commemorative plaque recall the persecution and suffering of Polish aviators.

Traditions and Local Life

Since 1993, people of different cultures and languages, as well as members of different religions and churches, have gathered at Kozacka Mogila on the first Saturday in June. If this date matters for your trip, check the announcement for the relevant year. This lets you plan your trip around the longstanding tradition without assuming that the annual date has been confirmed.

Targowisko Aleksandrowskie on Targowa Street is another local point of reference. A designation dated 23 June 2022 provided for trading there on Fridays and Saturdays by farmers and members of their households. The products listed included agricultural produce and food, as well as handicrafts made on the farm. As this information refers to the 2022 designation, check before visiting whether the market and its hours are still in effect.
