St. Wojciech for local church history, and the forestry education center for forests, animals, and nature watching. These themes offer different perspectives and help you organize your interests for a stay in Grodziec.

Palace and Park History

The palace and park complex in Grodziec covers 16.12 hectares. It includes a manor house dating from 1639, which was renovated in 1785. These dates are 146 years apart: they mark the construction and a later renovation, not a single building event. The complex also includes a landscape park with traces of a formal layout from the 18th century. This makes it possible to consider the manor house’s specific building history and the park’s design history as two distinct yet connected aspects of the place.

Named landscape features include the pedunculate oak “Anna” (Quercus robur) on Parkowa Street and the “Kwileckich” hornbeam avenue (Carpinus betulus L.) on plot no. 366 in the northern part of the park in Grodziec. The comparison is specific: one is a single tree on a street, while the other is an avenue along a precisely identified section of the park.

Parish History and St. Wojciech

The parish in Grodziec was founded in the 16th century. The present-day St. Wojciech Parish Church was built much later: the brick Neo-Gothic building was constructed between 1893 and 1900 and consecrated in 1901. The dates refer to different things—the founding of the parish on the one hand, and the construction and consecration of the present-day church building on the other. This keeps the older parish history distinct from the age of the present-day building. St. Wojciech is listed in both the register of monuments and the monument inventory.

Neo-Gothic refers to the later revival of Gothic design forms. The term identifies the architectural style, while the years 1893 to 1900 indicate the construction period. Both the parish’s long history and the more recent building history of the present-day church are therefore important for understanding the chronology.

Forestry Education Center and Wildlife Watching

The forestry education center offers a different focus. It includes a room with taxidermied animals, a model of a lignite mine, and a hut where a forester tells stories. The facilities bring together different themes and ways of presenting them: wildlife, a model of a mine, and oral storytelling. This distinguishes the center’s subject matter from the architectural and church histories of Grodziec’s other sites.

The center also has a treetop walkway and a platform eight meters above the ground. There is a telescope there for observing animals in the forest enclosure. The walkway and platform are separate facilities; the platform is specifically equipped with a telescope for wildlife watching. The center therefore combines exhibits and storytelling with the opportunity to observe animals in the forest enclosure.

The forestry education center is open for visits year-round. Check the visiting arrangements before you travel; individual exhibits may change. This helps you plan your visit around the current displays without assuming that every exhibition remains unchanged at all times.
