Discover Grodzisk Wielkopolski
Accommodation in Grodzisk Wielkopolski
Grodzisk Wielkopolski combines historic urban layouts with a city park, a museum and distinctive individual buildings. When choosing a destination, you can weigh up different priorities here: the squares of the old town and the later new town, a panorama depicting the defence of 1848, or the park with its pond and leisure facilities. The windmill and brewing tradition also give the town its own character.
Townscape and history
Grodzisk Wielkopolski has preserved the layout of its medieval town around Stary Rynek. The Old Market Square forms the centre, with the 19th-century town hall defining the square. The later new town was laid out around the rectangular market square at Plac Powstańców Wielkopolskich. Two distinct urban forms can therefore be seen: the medieval town layout and the market square of the later new town.
The neo-Gothic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus stands in the new town’s market square. Dating from 1905, it was formerly a Protestant church and is now Catholic. Its construction date, architecture and current dedication offer a brief insight into the building’s history.
The Muzealna Izba Tradycji Ziemi Grodziskiej is located in the city park, in a listed 19th-century palace. One of its biggest attractions is a panorama measuring 12 metres long and 3 metres high. It depicts the defence of the town on 28 April 1848 during the Greater Poland Spring of Nations. The specific event and large-format painting make the museum a distinctive stop for anyone interested in the town’s history.
City park, pond and summer swimming pool
The city park is a former landscaped park dating from the mid-19th century. It contains a 1.36-hectare pond fed by the Letnica. The park thus brings together historic landscaping and a tangible connection to water. Since the museum is also located in the city park, cultural history and parkland can be explored there as distinct themes.
A distinctive feature of the open-air ecology and education centre is an installed salt well. It is made of natural stone and uses Zabłocka brine.
For the 2026 season, the summer swimming pool offers a water recreation zone, social facilities, lockable lockers, a relaxation area and a large green space. Facilities and operations may change after the 2026 season. Check seasonal opening times before your visit.
Windmill and brewing tradition
The Kozlak windmill dates from 1766 and was reconstructed in Grodzisk Wielkopolski in 2011. It is considered a local tourist attraction. Grodzisk beer is another local speciality: because of its thick head and many bubbles, it earned the nickname “Polish champagne”.
