Kozarzyn: Industrial History and Regional Routes
Accommodation in Kozarzyn
If you are looking for a hotel in Kozarzyn, understanding the destination starts with its own history. Kozarzyn’s local features are complemented by swimming and cycling options in the municipality of Szamocin. When planning your trip, you can consider these separately: the history of the town and activities at the municipal level.
Industrial History in Kozarzyn
Between 1831 and 1832, Selig Salamon built an oil mill, a sawmill, and a steam mill in Kozarzyn. The first steam engine in Greater Poland was installed in the steam mill. Salamon’s company operated around the clock and, thanks to its modern equipment, developed large-scale production. During the season, its daily milling capacity was 70 centners. In autumn, the oil mill processed 25 tonnes of oilseeds. These figures measure different things: daily milling capacity during the season and the quantity processed in autumn.
Local History and Historic Buildings
Kozarzyn was formerly an industrial settlement adjoining Smolary. A later chapter in its built history is marked by the Dom Młynarza: the building dates from around 1908, is now used as a residential building, and is listed in the municipal register of monuments of Szamocin. Its approximate date places it in a different period from the facilities built in the early 1830s. A disused 19th-century evangelical cemetery is also part of the town’s history. The settlement itself consists of three farmsteads. The 19th-century cemetery dates from the same century as the early industrial facilities. The residential building from around 1908, by contrast, provides a later reference point in Kozarzyn’s history, at the turn of the 20th century.
Swimming Options in the Municipality

Cycling Routes and Landscapes in Szamocin
Ten marked cycling routes, with a total length of 163.5 km, are designated in woodland areas in the municipality of Szamocin. The total length refers to all ten routes, not to a single ride. One cycling route that runs through the municipality is called “Przyroda i człowiek” and is about 20 km long. It passes through forests, parks, and avenues, as well as historic buildings, memorials, religious and secular sites, and natural monuments. The landscape areas provide the setting for the route; its listed destinations include both natural and cultural features.
The meadows in the Noteć Valley are also among the landscape features of the municipality. These meadows are home to 115 bird species. Together with the designated cycling routes, this landscape setting adds another perspective on the municipality to the local industrial history.
