Aldama and the Museo Regional de Antropología e Historia

The Museo Regional de Antropología e Historia is located in the center of Aldama. It belongs to the Aldama municipal government and opened on May 6, 2000. The museum includes a 90-square-meter space for temporary exhibitions in various artistic disciplines. It also has an auditorium and parking. Nature and Excursions in the Wider Aldama Destination

Cenotes and Landscape

The Cenotes de Aldama system consists of five bodies of water: El Zacatón, Baños, Murciélagos, Poza Verde, and Alameda. El Zacatón and Poza Verde are among the system’s five bodies of water; La Pilita and La Azufrosa are in the wider Aldama destination. El Zacatón is an open cenote approximately 140 meters in diameter and 335 meters deep. Poza Verde measures 150 meters in diameter and about 200 meters deep. La Pilita is 30 meters in diameter, with an explored depth of approximately 100 meters. La Azufrosa is 12 meters wide and has a conical bottom. The four cenotes of Aldama described in the municipal plan are connected by an underground river that runs a few meters below the surface.

The cenotes are on private property; a group is responsible for monitoring the site. Confirm access before planning a visit. This way, the distinctive landscape can be part of your plans without assuming that access is unrestricted.

Cave Spring, Waterfall, and Coast

El Nacimiento is in the vicinity of the destination, 13 kilometers from the municipal seat. There, a spring emerges inside a cave at the foot of the Sierra. Activities to consider for the outing include picnicking, swimming, and boat trips. The cave spring and these activities offer a different focus from the museum collection and provide another way to plan the rest of your trip.

The coastal towns and natural destinations in the wider Aldama destination also offer a range of activities. At Barra de Morón, boat trips and nature experiences are among the visitor activities. At Playa del Sol in the town of Barra del Tordo, sport fishing and birdwatching are available. In March 2025, the municipality of Aldama began repair work there to welcome visitors during the holidays under improved conditions. El Salto is a waterfall on the Río Carrizal; swimming and rappelling are possible there.

Distances for Trip Planning

To reach Playa Rancho Nuevo from Aldama, the route covers more than 25 kilometers on paved roads and 18 kilometers on unpaved roads. As road conditions can change, it is advisable to check the route before setting out. Playa Barra del Tordo is 42 kilometers from the municipal seat of Aldama; the drive takes about 40 minutes, depending on conditions. These two distances refer to different destinations and should therefore be considered separately when planning your drive. Together with the museum in the center, they provide an overview that distinguishes the specific cultural stop from the broader natural and coastal destinations in the wider Aldama destination.
