Five bodies of water make up the Cenotes de Aldama system: El Zacatón, Baños, Murciélagos, Poza Verde and Alameda. Their different dimensions offer a concrete impression of the natural formations that define Aldama.

Cenotes of Different Dimensions

El Zacatón is an open cenote approximately 140 meters in diameter and 335 meters deep. Poza Verde measures 150 meters in diameter and is about 200 meters deep. These figures show two different scales within the cenote system.

La Pilita is 30 meters in diameter; its explored depth is approximately 100 meters. La Azufrosa measures 12 meters in diameter and has a conical bottom. Alongside the large bodies of water, smaller natural features with different shapes also come into view.

The cenotes are located on private property; a group is responsible for monitoring the area. If you are considering a visit, ask in advance about visiting options.

Waterfalls and Activities on the Water

El Salto is a waterfall on the Río Carrizal. Swimming and rappelling are possible there. In Barra de Morón, visitors can enjoy boat trips and nature experiences. Both places connect Aldama’s landscape with different activities on the water.

Sport fishing and birdwatching are possible at Playa del Sol in the town of Barra del Tordo. In March 2025, the municipality of Aldama began repair work there to welcome visitors during the holidays under improved conditions.

Check access road conditions in advance, as they may change.

History and Archaeological Context

The Museo Regional de Arqueología e Historia belongs to the municipal government. It opened on May 6, 2000, and displays a historical collection as well as archaeological artifacts from the region. The museum thus complements the natural attractions with insight into Aldama’s history and archaeology.

Nearby, southeast of Aldama and close to Morón, there is a group of hills at La Ceiba where monoliths have been found.
