Guaymas brings together historic buildings and squares, collections, cultural events, the bayfront Malecón and leisure activities at Playa Miramar. If you are looking for a hotel, you could first consider which of these aspects of the city are especially important to you during your stay.

Historic Places and Architectural History

The Parroquia Sagrado Corazón de Jesús brings together several historic milestones: The parish was founded in 1881, and its neoclassical chapel dates from the same year, while the Baroque church was built in 1917. This distinguishes the parish’s founding from its architectural history; at the same time, two architectural styles, each with its own associated date, stand side by side. Plaza 13 de Julio is a historic place associated with events during the French invasion. Its kiosk is designed in the Moorish style, adding a distinct architectural accent alongside its historical associations. The Palacio Municipal in the center of Guaymas was completed in 1923.

Museums, Collections and Local Products

The Antigua Cárcel Pública is currently used as a museum. If you want to include a visit in your plans, check current visiting arrangements in advance. The Casa de los 3 Frentes displays antiques, death masks, letters and personal belongings of presidents born in Guaymas. The connection to presidents born in the city links these different objects to Guaymas; the house also offers cafeteria and breakfast service.

The Mercado Municipal offers typical products from Guaymas, including food and handicrafts; the product mix may change. The two places therefore have different focuses: the Casa de los 3 Frentes features a historical collection, while the Mercado Municipal focuses on local products.

Bay, Monument and Leisure

The Malecón Turístico is located on the Bay of Guaymas and includes areas for commerce, tourism and recreation. This mix of uses makes it a distinct point of interest for travelers who are not interested exclusively in architectural history and collections.

The Monumento Benito Juárez consists of 210 steps, including the final step up to the statue. Unlike the historical dates associated with the church or the Palacio Municipal, the focus here is on a specific architectural feature.

Activities available at Playa Miramar include fishing, diving, kayaking, kiteboarding and snorkeling, as well as other leisure activities. Which activities you can actually take part in during your stay may depend on conditions and providers. If you have a particular activity in mind, check the conditions and options in advance.

Cultural Events

Iglesia San Fernando is associated with concerts during the annual Carnival celebrations in the days leading up to Ash Wednesday, and with opera performances in February. The Auditorio Cívico Municipal Fray Ivo Tonek hosts theater, music, dance, children’s and festival events, as well as film screenings and conferences. For travel planning, the two venues answer different questions: San Fernando is associated with Carnival and February, while the range of event types is the main consideration at the Auditorio. Check specific dates if an event is to determine when you travel.
