If you are looking for a hotel in Pinal de Amoles, you can first get your bearings by considering the different reasons to visit: the historic center combines cobblestone streets, architectural history and religious culture; a viewpoint and a waterfall are nearby, while other nature destinations are located within the municipality. This means you can go from strolling through the center to hiking and ecotourism opportunities in the municipality. The destinations differ in theme, location and activities.

Historic Center and Templo de San José

In the historic center, you can walk along the cobblestone streets and discover the history, architecture and culture of the Sierra Gorda. The Templo de San José de Pinal de Amoles was built at the request of the people of Pinal. Bachiller Don José María Rodríguez, the first priest of this church, took part in its construction. The first service in the temple was held for a deceased person on April 3, 1771. The rear section and sacristy were built around 1773.

The interior of the Templo is almost entirely clad in wood: the floors, ceilings and walls. Only a narrow strip of the walls, with niches for religious images, is left uncovered. The images include Pope John Paul II, Saint Joseph, Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Lord of Mercy and Our Lady of Sorrows. They are joined by the 14 Stations of the Cross, as well as Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Anthony of Padua, Our Lady of Fatima, the Child Jesus and Saint Francis of Assisi.

The Parroquia de San José de Pinal de Amoles preserves the traditions of its mountainous surroundings and a long-standing religious tradition; its original name was “Real de San José de Los Amoles.” The Casa de Cultura building also reflects its changing uses: it was completed in 1947, initially used as a barracks for the federal army and later as a tax office. In 1994, it was converted into the Casa de Cultura.

A viewpoint and waterfall nearby

The Mirador Cuatro Palos and Cascada del Chuveje are located near the destination. The Mirador is 12 kilometers from the municipal seat of Pinal de Amoles; hiking, extreme cycling and camping are available there. Cascada del Chuveje is 23 kilometers from the municipal seat. Its 30-meter-high waterfall can be reached by a 15-minute walk along the river.

Both distances are measured from the municipal seat; the 15 minutes, by contrast, refers to the walk along the river to the waterfall. This makes it possible to distinguish the two destinations by their distance and the activities mentioned for each: the Mirador is chiefly associated with hiking, extreme cycling and camping, while Cascada is associated with the waterfall and the walk along the river.

River landscape and municipal territory

The Río Escanela is also located within the municipality and is considered a protected natural area. Here, you can hike, see a waterfall, observe flora and fauna, cross the Cañón de la Angostura and visit Puente de Dios on the Río Escanela. Swimming may be an option when conditions are suitable.

Hiking, ecotourism and exploring a landscape of striking mountains, crystal-clear waterfalls and viewpoints are described as activities available in the municipal territory. The municipality conveys the image of a natural retreat: in the morning, fog blankets the paths, and over the course of the day the Sierra Gorda unfolds. Local cuisine, traditions and colonial architecture contribute to the rustic charm of the Pueblo Mágico.
