Los Reyes de Salgado brings together historic architecture and recurring public festivals with the nearby Los Chorros del Varal natural area. This offers different ways to plan your stay: sacred architecture and local history, events with their own themes, and a nature excursion with route and access information you should check in advance.

Architecture and Local History

The Parroquia de los Santos Reyes is designated as an architectural historic monument in the city of Los Reyes de Salgado. The Capilla de San Gabriel offers a different perspective: it dates from the 16th century, and its dome is painted with religious motifs.

A monument to General JosĂ© Trinidad Salgado RenterĂa stands beside the “Los Reyes 400” Obelisk in Los Reyes de Salgado. The fountain at the obelisk was put back into operation in January 2022 for residents and visitors entering the city via this access point.

The Casa de la Cultura de Los Reyes was established in 1995 as a joint program of the local and state governments to promote and disseminate cultural activities. Its past workshops included painting, dance, photography, English, Purépecha and ceramics.

Recurring Events

The craft fair is held every year on May 12 in the main square to mark the anniversary of the town’s founding. A municipal description from March 2022 mentions public demonstrations showing basic methods for processing sugarcane into its products, as well as products made from regional blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and avocados. If you are traveling specifically for the fair, check the program details in advance.

The Caravana de la Fantasía is also held annually. It is organized by the José Francisco Trinidad Salgado preschool. The municipal family services office then holds a festival featuring various activities for children.

The traditional Día de Muertos program includes competitions for altars and graves at the Cobaem Los Reyes campus, as well as competitions for painting, literary calaveras, Catrinas and Catrines. Events take place in the main square. The Marcha de las Ánimas proceeds along Calle 16 de Septiembre to the square.
