Saint-Simon-De-Rimouski combines trails through riverside and mountain landscapes with opportunities to observe the St. Lawrence River and a collaboratively designed park. When planning your trip, it is worth noting the different lengths of the trails: a municipal route runs for about 13 kilometres towards Notre-Dame-des-Neiges; the trail to Belvédère Beaulieu is about two kilometres long and has steep ascents and descents. The shoreline and Parc Croc-Nature also offer places to pause, observe nature and discover local history.

Trails and viewpoints

An approximately 13-kilometre route leads from the municipal shoreline area towards Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. It follows Route de la Grève, a shared road along the river and through the mountains, and includes a forest section on Chemin de la Grève-Rioux. The distance is approximate; conditions may vary seasonally.

Belvédère Beaulieu offers a different kind of trail: access is via a path about two kilometres long, suitable for walking or cycling, with steep ascents and descents. The highest point is 183 metres above sea level. The routes therefore differ not only in length: steep changes in elevation are specifically noted on the trail to the Belvédère, while the longer route follows a shared road and passes through a forest section.

The Belvédère parking area can be reached within the municipality via Route de la Grève and then Chemin Côté. At the foot of Chute du Porc-Pic there is a pergola; a small parking area is located at the end of the access road.

On the shores of the St. Lawrence River

Boats can be launched at Anse à Pierre-Jean and at the municipal shoreline area. Kayakers can also use a rest area there. Saint-Simon-sur-Mer shoreline area is accessible via Route de la Grève and has picnic tables, direct shoreline access, a boat dock, a parking area and a dry toilet.

From Saint-Simon-sur-Mer, you can watch birds, passenger ships and sunsets over the St. Lawrence River. The shoreline thus offers both a place to pause and opportunities for observing nature and ships. The boat launch sites at two different locations are also useful to know when planning time by the water.

Parc Croc-Nature: a green space and cultural project

Parc Croc-Nature was created in spring 2016 on an abandoned municipal property by a citizens’ committee and the Brigade Verte de Saint-Simon. Residents and people from the local business and community sectors took part in the collaborative green project. Today, visitors can pick and sample vegetables and berries along the trails, as well as discover the history of Saint-Simon.

The park also features local and regional works of art, the Gazébo du poète and rural ponds. Cultural events, including exhibitions and concerts, are also part of its offerings. Edible plants, local history and art give visitors different reasons to explore Parc Croc-Nature: you can follow the trails, discover plants or learn about the history of the town. Exhibitions and concerts add a cultural focus to the park landscape.
