Temiskaming Shores can be explored through a range of interests when planning your trip: beaches and waterfront promenades, nature along the river, geology, golf or local history. When choosing a hotel, it helps to first decide which of these themes will shape your stay. Destinations in Haileybury and New Liskeard offer different starting points. You can then plan your outings around whichever focus interests you most.

Beaches and waterfronts in Haileybury and New Liskeard

Haileybury Beach is located in Camsell Park at 309 Broadway Street. You can swim, picnic and relax here. The beach is fully enclosed, sandy and has treated water. Facilities include a 150-foot waterslide, a water fountain and a water umbrella. As seasonal offerings may vary, check before your visit whether the slide and water features are currently operating.

The New Liskeard Waterfront offers a different setting along the water, with a one-mile beach and a waterfront promenade. The site also includes a walking and cycling trail, beach volleyball and basketball courts, baseball fields, and public tennis courts. The two waterfront destinations therefore differ in what they offer: Haileybury Beach focuses on a sandy beach and water features, while the New Liskeard Waterfront combines a beach, promenade and sports facilities. If a particular sports facility is important to your plans, check its condition in advance; individual facilities may be undergoing maintenance or have changed.

River scenery and geology

Pete's Dam Park is in Temiskaming Shores, where a waterfall and rapids draw visitors for picnicking and hiking. An easy, 2.4-kilometre trail runs along the river. The park thus combines a specific trail with a landscape shaped by water. Check access before setting out.

RockWalk Park, on the grounds of Northern College in Temiskaming Shores, offers a different focus. It features nearly 200 geological exhibits, adding a geological perspective alongside the beaches and river scenery. Check current access options before setting out.

Regional history in two museums

Through artefacts and documentation, the Little Claybelt Homesteaders Museum preserves the cultural heritage of South Temiskaming and the settlement history of the Little Claybelt region. A self-guided outdoor exhibit displays antique agricultural equipment and tools. The museum therefore highlights both settlement history and tangible objects from farming.

The historical exhibits at the Haileybury Heritage Museum cover other aspects of local and cultural history: the experiences of early settlers, local sporting achievements, Canada's first official airmail flight, and Haileybury's connection to the Hardy Boys. In contrast, the Little Claybelt Homesteaders Museum focuses on the heritage of South Temiskaming and agricultural objects. The two museums thus offer different perspectives on the region.

Golf with different highlights

New Liskeard Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf course with a par of 72 and a licensed clubhouse. From the community of Haileybury, Haileybury Golf Club overlooks Lake Temiskaming. The features described emphasize different things: at the New Liskeard club, the course layout and clubhouse take centre stage, while at Haileybury Golf Club, it's the view of the lake. This lets you choose between a clearly described course profile and a location with a lake view when planning your trip.
