Golf, time by the water, and outdoor trails offer different ways to spend your time. A 9-hole course, a sandy beach, and a trail made up of two loops are not interchangeable travel options. Whether you plan your trip around a round of golf, the beach, or a route changes the focus of your choices.

Clear Lake Beach and Trails

Clear Lake Beach in Espanola is a sandy beach. Accessible mats run along the shore and provide access to the water. The beach also has a playground, a beach volleyball area, and public washrooms. Facilities may be seasonally maintained; keep this in mind when planning your visit. The combination of shoreline access and other amenities makes the beach a specific destination if you want to combine time by the water with other activities in the same place.

The paved Al Secord Fitness Trail runs through Espanola along Highway 6 to Clear Lake Beach. The trail thus leads to a clearly identified destination at the beach; when planning, you can consider the trail together with a visit to the water. As surface conditions can change, it is advisable to check the trail conditions in advance.

Espanola is also a designated stop on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. If you plan to cycle, check the route conditions before setting out. The Black Creek Sno-Shoe Trail in Espanola is laid out differently: this non-motorized trail is 1.5 km long and consists of two connected loops. Maintenance and seasonal conditions can change; check them before your visit.

The differences are in their endpoint, layout, and role as routes: the Al Secord Fitness Trail leads to the beach, the Black Creek Sno-Shoe Trail consists of two loops, and Espanola is a designated stop on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

Golf in Espanola

Espanola Golf & Country Club is a public 9-hole course with a par of 36; it was founded in 1929. The club welcomes guest players. The number of holes and par give the course a specific format, while its founding year adds a historical reference. Boogie Mountain is positioned as a year-round destination for golf and skiing. This means there are two distinct golf options: a public 9-hole course and a destination that combines golf with skiing. Be sure to check Boogie Mountain’s seasonal operating hours separately.

Other Local Highlights

Heritage Park is at the north entrance to Espanola, just beyond the bridge. The Black Creek Fishing Pier, operated by the Espanola Game & Fish Protective Association, is located off Queensway Avenue on Panache Lake Road.

An osprey family has settled at the corner of Highway 6 and McCulloch Drive. Wildlife viewing is a seasonal possibility; wildlife locations can change.
