Iron Bridge combines activities on the Mississagi River with hiking trails, snowmobile routes and a regional touring route. If you’re looking for a hotel in Iron Bridge, you can plan your trip around which of these options matter most for your stay. River access, seasonal wildlife viewing, hiking trails and a longer drive offer different focuses; their respective starting points can help you choose the right activity for your daily plans.

On the Mississagi River: Water and Wildlife Viewing

Centennial Park & Boat Launch is located in the centre of Iron Bridge and provides public access to the Mississagi River. Visitors can boat, paddle, fish and watch wildlife there. Water conditions and facilities may vary seasonally. If you’re planning to spend time on the water, keep these seasonal changes in mind as you plan.

The annual salmon run at Centennial Park attracts anglers, photographers and visitors hoping to see bald eagles and other wildlife along the river corridor. Seasonal wildlife viewing and water-based activities are therefore different ways to experience the park.

Hiking Trails, a Walk and Snowmobiling

The Voyageur Trail has a trailhead at the end of Warnock Street in Iron Bridge, as well as other trailheads on Melwel Road and in Little Rapids. The trail is linear, so plan your route in advance. Tally Ho Park also provides access to the Voyageur Trail and the TransCanada Trail. These access points and the linear route are important differences to consider when choosing a section.

For a walk, visitors can use Veterans’ Bridge, a recreational bridge over the Mississagi River that’s suitable for a leisurely stroll. The bridge adds a separate option for walking across the river to the trail access points.

For snowmobiling, a starting point is located at the Iron Bridge Recreation Centre. From there, visitors can access more than 600 km of groomed snowmobile trails. Trail conditions are seasonal. Unlike the named Voyageur Trail trailheads, the length of the snowmobile trail network is the main feature here.

Commemorations and Events

A cenotaph in Tally Ho Park commemorates the region’s veterans who served in the two world wars. In August, the annual Iron Bridge Lions Club Community Days and Family Baseball Tournament take place at the Lions Club Ball Park. Event dates may change; check the schedule before your trip.

Driving Through East Algoma

The Deer Trail Touring Route is a 120 km driving experience through East Algoma that connects to the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail in Iron Bridge. It differs from activities that start at a park or trailhead: the focus here is a drive through the region. The route length and its connection in Iron Bridge provide a specific point of reference when comparing a touring route with local access to the river, bridge and hiking trails.
