Sicamous Between Lakes, Nature and History
Accommodation in Sicamous
Sicamous is located where Shuswap Lake meets Mara Lake. From trails along the Eagle River to history and cycling, as well as recreational activities on Shuswap Lake, the town offers a range of options to help you plan your trip.
Trails and Scenery
At Sicamous River Front Nature Park, a two-kilometre, family-friendly walking trail winds through a poplar forest along the Eagle River. You can experience local wildlife and watch the river there. Another trail option is the Old Sicamous Highway: it follows the historic route of the former highway for about six kilometres and offers views of Shuswap Lake. Construction may affect access; check access before your visit. The two trails differ in length and scenery: the shorter walking trail passes through the forest along the river, while the longer route follows the historic highway route and offers lake views.
History in Sicamous
The Sicamous Heritage Walking Tour focuses on the east side of the channel. There, Sicamous’s original main street, Finlayson Street, meets the channel at Young Crescent and Riverside Avenue. The tour thus anchors the town’s history to a specifically named stretch of road. The Sicamous & District Museum & Historical Society presents the diverse history of Sicamous and the Eagle Valley through artefacts, photographs, digital media and texts. The tour offers a geographical approach to history, while the museum conveys it through a variety of materials and media.
Cycling and Activities for Children
Finlayson Park has a competition-ready Velosolutions pump track. Alongside the main track, there is a separate children’s pump track for first-time riders. The facility therefore combines a competition-ready track with a separate area designed for first riding experiences.
Water Activities
Recreational activities on Shuswap Lake include houseboating, recreational boating, jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, water skiing, wakeboarding, fishing and windsurfing. Sicamous Beach Park has a sheltered swimming area and a water playground for children. This lets you distinguish activities on the lake from the swimming area and water playground in the park; at Eagle River, the Nature Park focuses on the walking trail, river watching and wildlife. Children’s activities vary by location and type: pump track riding at Finlayson Park and a water playground at Sicamous Beach Park.
Main Street Landing
At the end of Main Street, Main Street Landing has a public boat launch for day use. There are also walking trails there. The boat launch and walking trails thus come together at a named location; the boat launch is specifically intended for day use.
