Discover Crossfield: Parks, Trails and Recreation
Accommodation in Crossfield
Plan your time in Crossfield around your leisure interests
Crossfield offers several specific starting points for planning your day: sports facilities in several parks, a nature walk, signs pointing to fishing ponds, and the children’s program at the Crossfield Farmers’ Market. If you’re looking for a hotel in Crossfield, you can first decide which activities matter for your stay. The places below differ both in their recreational offerings and in when they are available.
Parks and sports facilities
Banta Park has basketball and tennis courts. One of the tennis courts is lined for pickleball. The park also has a spray park with benches and picnic tables. The facilities are seasonal; operating dates may vary. If the spray park is important to your travel plans, check the current dates in advance.
Amery Park is in northwest Crossfield and has a year-round ice rink as well as a basketball court. This makes the rink seasonally different from the spray park at Banta Park. McCaskill Park has a soccer field with a 400-metre running track, as well as a BMX and skateboarding park. The 400-metre measurement gives the track a specific scale; soccer and BMX or skateboarding offer further, clearly distinct sports. So if you’re weighing several of these options when planning your day, both the activity and the season matter.
Nature, trails and wayfinding
Veterans’ Peace Park has two memorial forests. The park is also suitable for a nature walk and has a disc golf course. The course was initiated and completed in 2021 by the Helping Hands 4-H Club. The memorial landscape, nature walk and disc golf give the park a different character from sports facilities with courts, an ice rink or a running track.
In Crossfield, signs indicate the trail network, parks and city sidewalks. Follow the northern trail signs to reach the fishing ponds at Crossfield’s southwestern end. The trail route may change as a result of future infrastructure work, so follow the signs when finding your way. According to the city, the ponds at the western end of Laut Ave. and Range Road 12 are stocked seasonally with rainbow trout.
Market program and heritage
The Crossfield Farmers’ Market currently runs the Market Buds children’s program. It includes conversations with farmers, educational and cooking activities, tastings, gardening, exercise classes, and arts and crafts. If Market Buds is important to your trip, check the current dates before visiting, as the program may vary by season.
For history and heritage, Crossfield has two distinct points of reference: Veterans’ Peace Park has two memorial forests, and the Crossfield Municipal Library offers more information about the town’s history and heritage. The park provides a memorial landscape, while the library offers further information.
