A historic Vaarkaart shows a boating route between Stede Broec and Enkhuizen. Stede Broec is also on the Amsterdam–Enkhuizen railway line and has the Bovenkarspel-Grootebroek and Bovenkarspel Flora railway stations. The map is available at tourist information points, harbour offices and from leisure providers. For your planning, this gives you a rail connection with two specifically named stations and a guide to the waterway.

Mills, Harbour and Culture

Ceres Mill was built in 1849 using an octagonal section and numerous other parts from the De Oude Haas oil mill in Zaandijk. Its construction history thus connects a specific year with the reuse of parts from another mill. The mill shop sells, among other things, flour and baked goods; available products may vary.

De Overhaal is an important industrial monument in the harbour of Bovenkarspel. As early as the 17th century, boats were transported over De Overhaal from the polder to the harbour on the Zuiderzee. Since its restoration in 1993, the boat and vessel lift has been used for recreational purposes. If you are planning a boat crossing, check the current operating rules in advance.

Theatre and cultural activities are also possible reasons to visit. Het Postkantoor Theatre is located in a monumental building at Hoofdstraat 17 in Bovenkarspel and provides a venue for theatre and film screenings. Courses, exhibitions, lectures, theatre, dance classes and workshops are held at Cultureel Centrum Bessie; check the current programme before visiting. Bessiekerk, a historic building originally built as a Dutch Reformed church in 1862, stands in Lutjebroek.

Woodland, Water and Natural Areas

Woodland, water, meadows and paths alternate throughout Het Streekbos. Visitors can walk, swim, climb and fish there. The ecological climbing park Klimpark Streekbos is located in the recreation area of the same name and has been open since April 2015. There is an 18-hole mini-golf course right next to it; check its current availability before visiting. A fishing spot in Het Streekbos is accessible to people with disabilities. Follow the local signage and check the current conditions.

The De Weelen nature reserve is located in West Friesland. Visitors can watch deer and birds there. The area offers peace and space for a relaxing walk, providing a different nature experience from the mix of woodland, water, meadows and paths in Het Streekbos.

A cycling tour through the municipality of Stede Broec passes through the villages of Bovenkarspel, Grootebroek and Lutjebroek, among other places, and goes by the Blotevoetenpad in Bovenkarspel. Obstacles on the Blotevoetenpad Gouwe Voeten include balancing on tree trunks, crossing a wobbly bridge, and walking through water and a reed ditch. Check the current route details before your tour, and check the current condition of the trail before visiting.

A Taste of Country Life

In Lutjebroek, Het Keetje is an orchard and care farm. Visitors can find lunch, regional products, a farm shop, a lunchroom with a terrace and a discovery garden. Check the current opening arrangements and seasonal offerings before visiting.
