Plan a visit to Someren around a range of interests: forests, heathland and fen landscapes sit alongside cycling routes, windmills and guided activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Someren, consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay. The places and routes below offer some specific ideas.

Nature trails and landscapes

Strabrechtse Heide is one of the largest heathland areas in the Netherlands. Its landscape combines woodland and heath with small fen areas. Beuven is the largest fen in the Netherlands. Routes through the forests, heathland and fens of De Heihorsten Nature Park start at Natuurpoort Vennenhorst. From there, Strabrechtse Heide can be reached via walking and cycling paths.

The signposted Keelvenroute also passes through woodland, heathland and fen areas, as well as the Het Keelven nature development area. The paved Allemans routes at Natuurpoort Vennenhorst are suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. If you pay attention to the path conditions when planning, this information offers a specific point of reference; the suitability applies to the Allemans routes.

Cycling routes by length and course

The 30 km Strabrechtse Heide cycling route starts and finishes at Wilhelminaplein in the centre of Someren. The 45 km Peelroute starts in Someren and leads to De Groote Peel National Park. This lets you compare two different types of ride: one with a central starting and finishing point, and one with the national park as its destination.

If you prefer to plan your own route, the Someren-De Peel cycling network connects various cycling junctions that you can use to create custom routes. The two named rides, by contrast, already have a specified length and described course. This lets you decide before your trip whether to focus on one of these routes or put together your own.

Windmills, a walking tour and culture

Den Evert is a post mill built in 1543 by the Abbey of Postel. The De Victor windmill was built in 1853 by T.J. Rooijmans. Guided tours of De Victor are available for all age groups. Check the tour arrangements before your visit.

Stichting Vrienden van Museum Den Evert preserves and displays a collection of old agricultural and horticultural tools and materials typical of the region. Heemhuis Heemkundekring De Vonder offers a library and historical information about Someren and the surrounding area. The two places have different focuses: one presents a collection of locally typical tools and materials, while the other offers a library and local history.

The guided Dorpswandeling is a walking tour through the centre of Someren-Dorp. The route passes Wilhelminaplein, Laan ten Roode, Heemhuis and the Archaeology House, as well as the Postelpark with its monastery garden, Kerkstraat and Postel. If you would like to include this walk in your plans, check the tour dates and availability beforehand.

Natuurtheater De Donck stages two productions each year, with several performances of each: a youth production in May and an adult production in September. Individual productions may change. If you would like to attend a performance during your trip, check the dates for your travel period.

Planning your stay

De Diepsteeckel is Someren’s outdoor family swimming pool. It opens seasonally, and its operating arrangements may also change. So check the latest information if the pool is important to your travel plans.

The Someren Natuurlijk Tourist Information Point is located at De Meer 21a in Someren. As contact details may change, it is a good idea to check them shortly before your visit. Land van de Peel provides an events calendar for Someren and the surrounding municipalities, as well as information about attractions, walking and cycling routes, and other tourist offerings. This allows you to include events in your plans alongside the routes and cultural activities described here.
