Routes and Activities in Sint-Oedenrode

The Brabantse Klompenbeleefroute combines the theme of wooden clogs with the poplar landscape. Its one- or multi-day hiking and cycling routes take you to related sights. The route covers part of Het Groene Woud, including Best, Liempde, Sint-Oedenrode, and Schijndel. If you are interested in this craft tradition and the landscape, you will find a route offering focused on these themes.

The Ommetje Rijsingen offers a different perspective: the 8-kilometre route connects Streekpark De Kienehoef with the historic centre of Sint-Oedenrode via the Dommeldal. The PodTrip Land van Kien, by contrast, has an approximate duration and a specific starting point: the interactive GPS audio tour around Hoeve Arbeidslust is 2.8 kilometres long, takes about 90 minutes, and starts at the vegetable garden at De Helden van Kien, Bremhorst 1. The two options can therefore be compared by their stated route lengths; only the PodTrip also has an approximate duration.

Art can also be explored along a route: the Kunstroute Eerschot features 16 artworks set into the pavement between the Paulus Gasthuisjes and the Knoptoren. The Knoptoren also offers a viewpoint. By prior arrangement, visitors can climb its 154 steps and enjoy views over the green surroundings.

Another route focuses on history. The 25-kilometre stage of the Route Operatie Market Garden runs from Son en Breugel to Sint-Oedenrode through the area where the American 101st Airborne Division landed during Operation Market Garden. Its theme therefore differs from the routes focused on wooden clogs, the poplar landscape, or paths through the Dommeldal.

Local History, Museums and Culture

The history of Kasteel Henkenshage dates back to the early 14th century. An earlier chapter in the region's history is told by the Borchmolen: it stood near the castle of the Counts of Rode in the 12th and 13th centuries. Grain was milled and oil pressed there. These two historic sites and their functions offer different insights into the past.

The historic Sint Paulusgasthuis houses the Museum van Brabantse Mutsen en Poffers and the Tourist Information Point. The museum focuses on the headwear worn by Brabant women between 1870 and 1950. The Smederij Museum H.J. van de Kamp shows the tools and items a blacksmith used in his forge at the beginning of the 20th century; the distinctive house has been preserved in its original condition. The museum themes thus range from regional clothing to blacksmithing.

Visitors can attend lectures, exhibitions, and concerts, among other events, in the former church building of the Knoptoren. The Vresselse bos lies on an ancient drifting sand dune, right beside the Dommel. The Sint-Oedenrode visitor centre offers local information and recommendations for hiking routes, as well as canoe trips and viewpoints along the Dommel.
