In Weert, you can explore cultural history, routes and destinations by the water as distinct travel interests. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide which of these matters most to you. The museum, historic town layout and surrounding landscape each offer their own starting points for planning.

Museum, Church and Historic Town Layout

Museum W is Weert’s municipal museum. Its collection reflects regional and religious heritage. The Esser Collection documents the working methods of a prominent goldsmith’s workshop in Weert, which mainly produced religious tableware between 1838 and 1970. It offers a concrete insight into the craft, the period and the religious objects at the heart of this collection.

Sint Martinuskerk is considered a tourist attraction. It was built in the late Gothic style, with Rhenish and Maasland influences. These two regional references offer a way to place the architecture in context. The Singels offer a different historical perspective: they encircle Weert’s city centre and follow the route of the former town moats. They make it possible to relate the present-day shape of the inner city to its former function as a system of town moats.

The historic “Van Horne Walk” passes various places associated with the Van Horne family. Its focus differs from looking at individual buildings or the former town moats: here, the focus is on several places connected by a shared family association. Together, these attractions offer different ways to explore Weert’s history, from the museum collection and architecture to places associated with a family.

KempenBroek and Routes

KempenBroek extends across the Belgian and Dutch provinces of Limburg and Noord-Brabant, encompassing the municipalities of Bocholt, Bree, Kinrooi, Maaseik, Cranendonck, Weert and Nederweert. Weert is therefore part of a cross-border area that spans several municipalities. On 5 July 2024, UNESCO recognised KempenBroek as the first cross-border UNESCO Man and the Biosphere area in the Benelux countries. This regional extent is a useful point of reference when distinguishing between Weert and KempenBroek as you plan your trip.

There is also a 58-kilometre route in and around Weert, consisting of two loops. This allows you to choose your preferred distance.

For horse-riding excursions, Weert has a signposted network of riding routes with junctions. This network is characterised by its signage and junctions, while the 58-kilometre route is described by its length and two loops. These are different points of reference when comparing routes based on their respective formats.

Destinations by the Water

Weert has a visitors’ marina with 22 berths on the Zuid-Willemsvaart. The Blauwe Meertje Weert, with its day beach, offers a different connection to the water. As opening is seasonal and may change, check before your visit whether the day beach is open during your travel dates. This will help you distinguish between the marina and a seasonally operated day beach as different destinations by the water when planning your trip.
