Nunspeet – Nature, Water and Culture
Accommodation in Nunspeet
Nunspeet brings together a range of themes for a trip: forest and water landscapes, art, local history and a historic grain mill. Nunspeet offers specific points of interest for each of these themes.
Nature, Forest and Water
Zandenbos is a woodland area with hills of drifting sand that formed as early as the 19th century. As a result, the landscape is shaped not only by the forest but also by its distinctive terrain. The restored Zandenbosvennen are another natural highlight. They form a dynamic natural area with distinctive flora and fauna.
The Ronde Huisroute passes the Zandenbosvennen and is 7 km long in total, starting at the transferium in Nunspeet. The route combines a clearly stated distance with the natural area along the way. If you want to consider both distance and the landscape when planning your outing, these details provide two specific points of reference.
For a relaxing time by the water, consider Zandenplas. This recreational area is located in Nunspeet, in the forests of the Veluwe, and has a fine sandy beach. This makes it different from a trip into the forest or to the fens: the focus here is on spending time by the water. Facilities and seasonal offerings may change; check the latest information before your visit.
Getting Your Bearings and Getting There
The Bezoekerscentrum Nunspeet is located right next to the Veluwetransferium Nunspeet. There, you can get information about walking, cycling and horse-riding routes. Walks, cycle rides, nature activities and excursions start or end at the center. When planning, it is worth checking the latest information about facilities and routes, as these may change.
Bus services also stop near the center of Nunspeet: route 301 from Zwolle, 111 from Harderwijk, and 112 from Elspeet or Apeldoorn. If you are planning to travel by bus, check the current timetable; bus routes may change.
Art and Local History
The Noord-Veluws Museum showcases works by artists from the northern Veluwe and connects them with stories about the artists and the residents of this part of the Veluwe. They lived and worked there from 1880 to 1950. The focus is therefore not only on works of art, but also on the people and the regional ways of life and work of that period.
The memorial in Park 40-45 offers another way to remember the past: since 2023, it has named all the victims of the Second World War. Molen de Duif, in turn, offers a glimpse into the history of the craft. The grain mill was built in 1886 and restored in 1963 and 1982. It is still used to grind flour, which is sold in the shop. If you plan to visit the mill, check visiting arrangements in advance.
The Dorpswandeling through the center of Nunspeet passes wall poems, works of art and notable buildings. Places where artists lived and worked are also along the route. This walk thus focuses on art and history in the townscape, while the museum places works and regional stories at the center.
