If you are looking for a hotel in Duiven, paths, green spaces and historic sites can help you choose a destination that suits your interests. Local highlights range from the six-kilometre DuivenPad and several green spaces to a historic building, a church and a war memorial. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between a walk with a stated length, a specifically described short walking route with distinctive features, architecture, remembrance and an event venue.

Walking Routes and Green Spaces

The DuivenPad is a six-kilometre walking route with information about Duiven. It passes through the Liemers, shows a different part of Duiven and runs past Havezate Magerhorst. The route therefore combines a local connection with views of the wider region; its stated length also gives it a clear framework. As route details can change, check them before your walk.

Park de Nieuweling has a large pond and walking paths. The Kijk- en doeroute is also located there: a short walking route that has been in place since 2010. Its features include specially designed rubbish bins, poems and a graffiti wall. The route was developed by primary school pupils and students from Candea College. The difference from the DuivenPad is not just its length: while the DuivenPad is described as providing information about Duiven and passing through the Liemers, the Kijk- en doeroute combines a short walk with the creative features mentioned above.

Patersbosje is a historic deciduous woodland on the edge of Duiven’s modern centre. Unlike Park de Nieuweling, the focus here is on the woodland and its location on the edge of the centre. This lets you distinguish between a park with a pond and paths and a woodland described as historic.

Buildings and Remembrance

Only the octagonal stair tower of the original building at De Magerhorst remains; above the entrance is a so-called mezekouw. The surviving tower and the named detail above the entrance give this site a specific architectural focus.

The Remigiuskerk is open outside of services every Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. As opening hours can change, check the times before planning a visit.

The Duiven war memorial consists of a wooden cross on a circular base of pebbles and red bricks. It commemorates all fellow citizens who died as a result of acts of war during the occupation years. Thus, alongside architectural features, the destinations described here include a clearly defined place of remembrance.

Horsterpark and Events

Since September 2006, Horsterpark has had its own fully equipped children’s farm. It has goats, sheep, ponies, rabbits, two Kune Kune pigs, miniature cows and fallow deer. These animal groups make the children’s farm a distinct highlight among the things to see and do around Duiven.

Dickens in de Liemers also takes place in Horsterpark, a recreational area between Westervoort and Duiven. If you are planning your trip around the event, check the dates for your preferred travel period.
