Roderesch: Esdorp and wooded landscape
Accommodation in Roderesch
Roderesch developed as an esdorp over the course of the 19th century. Its buildings are scattered across a wooded setting. For travel planning based on village history and natural landscapes, Roderesch offers several specific points of interest: the green-like area to the north, the esch landscape by the woods, and named heathland and bog areas.
Village layout and landscape
On the north side of Roderesch is a green-like area planted with oaks. The esch field borders Mensingebos. This describes two distinct landscape features: a planted area to the north and the boundary between the esch and the woods. Together with the scattered buildings and wooded setting, these features create a village landscape defined both by its settlement pattern and by specific areas of land.
Several woodland plots and the Holveen bog separate Roderesch from Alteveer. This differs from the location of Mensingebos by the esch field: near Alteveer, woodland and bog together form the separation. By contrast, the Noorderduinen lie between Roderesch and Steenbergen. These named features help distinguish the different elements of the landscape and their positions relative to one another.
Heathland, bog and Noorderduinen
The Noorderduinen contain the megalithic tomb D1 and several large bog lakes. The megalithic tomb provides an archaeological point of interest, while the lakes add to the landscape. This brings cultural and natural interests together in a named landscape area.
Moltmakersstuk is the largest heathland area, running from west to east through Mensingebos. A new raised bog is developing at Moltmakersstuk. During a walk along the boardwalk, you can observe that the sphagnum moss is thriving in the water. The natural landscape ranges from heathland with a developing raised bog to a specific observation from the boardwalk: sphagnum moss growing in the water.
Walking and other activities
The Lieveren-Roderesch-Knapzak Route K23 is 17 kilometres long. One starting point is Herberg van Es, Hoofdweg 1, 9305 TD Roderesch. Its length gives you a specific distance to use when planning your trip. If you are looking for a walk with a clearly stated distance, it offers a different point of reference from the walk along the boardwalk, which is associated with observing sphagnum moss.
Homemade cakes are served with coffee at Herberg van Es. The inn thus combines a route starting point with a place to eat and drink. At De Zwerfsteen, Esweg 18, 9305TB Roderesch, Bushtrail is one of the activities on offer. Alongside walking and nature observation, there are other specific options for your stay.
Shared festival week
Roderesch celebrates the annual RAS festival week together with Alteveer and Steenbergen. If you would like to plan your stay around this event, check the exact dates in advance.
