Santo Stino Di Livenza: Churches, Art and Forest
Accommodation in Santo Stino Di Livenza
Santo Stino Di Livenza brings together churches from different centuries, the Bosco di Bandiziol-Pressacon woodland and the traditions of Corbolone. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can shape your visit: art and history, woodland scenery or the Fiera di S. Antonio.
Churches and Architectural History
The Pieve del Grumello was built in the 5th century on slightly elevated ground and is considered one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of Concordia. The Chiesa di San Marco in Corbolone offers a different historical reference point: it was built in 1514 and houses important works of art by Pordenone, de’ Pitati and Diziani. Thus, an early history of church architecture stands alongside a later-dated church containing works by three named artists.
Villa Zeno also connects with an older architectural history. It was built on the remains of an ancient castle. Together, the churches and the villa offer different ways to explore the area's past: through the age of a religious building, the artworks in San Marco and the history of the site on which Villa Zeno stands.
The Bosco di Bandiziol-Pressacon
The Bosco di Bandiziol-Pressacon hedgerow biotope is dominated by the English oak (Quercus robur). Other species include the field elm (Ulmus minor), black alder (Alnus glutinosa), manna ash (Fraxinus ornus), narrow-leaved ash (Fraxinus oxycarpa) and field maple (Acer campestris). The forest can therefore be appreciated through its specific tree species, not just as a name on the map.
The Bosco di Bandiziol is considered one of the most significant examples of lowland forest in the Veneto Orientale. The area is also home to a thousand-year-old forest, whose history is documented by important historical finds. During the time of the Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia, it served as the main source of ship planks and supplied the settlement of Corbolone with firewood. The forest's history therefore encompasses both its present-day classification as lowland forest and its earlier use by the Venetian Republic.
Corbolone: Fair and Wine Tradition
The traditional Fiera di S. Antonio in Corbolone is held in the second half of September. It attracts exhibitors and visitors from the Veneto Orientale and nearby Friuli. During the festivities, the Mostra dei vini di Corbolone promotes quality wine culture; the Marengo d’oro wine award is also presented. If you want to plan your trip around the Fiera, check the specific event dates in advance.
Riverside and Route Planning
The Riviera del Canale Malgher in Corbolone lies on the left bank of the canal. Its tree-lined waterfront has suitable paving, lighting and seating for short visits. This offers a different point of interest from the churches and forest: a landscaped waterfront set up for a brief stop.
A tourist route from San Stino di Livenza to Caorle passes through reclaimed landscapes and places near the Livenza. The total road distance is about 25 km. This approximate distance gives you an idea of the road route; it should not be taken as a travel-time estimate.
