Camponogara brings together several specific themes to help you plan your trip: church art, the history of villas, distinctive landscape features and local traditions. The area, shaped by agriculture, includes the districts of Prozzolo, Premaore and Campoverardo. Its historical landmarks, environmental features and traditions can also be explored using slow modes of transport. The highlights include both specific buildings and features of the landscape.

Landscape and Local Features

South of the Naviglio Brenta, road and canal intersections preserve traces of the ancient centuriation. Another landscape feature is the local “sabbioni”: elevated areas formed by deposits of river sediment and frequent flooding. These two details offer different points of focus: with the centuriation, the emphasis is on a historical trace; with the “sabbioni,” it is on their elevation and formation. In Camponogara, historical traces in the landscape meet terrain shaped by river deposits.

Churches and Sacred Art

The parish church of Camponogara is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary (the Assumption) and Saint Prosdocimus. The foundation stone for its construction was laid on November 7, 1774. Gaetano Callido built the organ in 1775; it was transferred to Camponogara in 1808. The dates mark two separate milestones: the year the organ was built and its subsequent transfer.

The frescoes in the Oratorio B.V. del Rosario in Campoverardo date from the 18th century. More than 30 depictions of rosary crowns are present as votive offerings; the oratory also has a central altar of Venetian origin. This means that the wall paintings, votive depictions and the altar's origin can each be considered distinct features of the building.

Villas and Historical Connections

Villa Bembo in Camponogara dates from the 16th century. The entrance hall, passage salon and four ground-floor rooms of Villa Bembo Rova are listed as accessible to visitors; this access is indicated as available until 2028. If these interior rooms are a specific reason for your visit, check the visiting conditions in advance.

Villa Sansoni-Dragonetti-Giantin is located in Campoverardo. This 17th-century villa has its own oratory. Villa Sargenti (Giantin), also in Campoverardo, is associated with Marquis Manfredini, who lived there. The oratory of the former Ca’ Diedo is located in Prozzolo. The place names help distinguish these different historical connections.

The estate of Villa Canal, Manfredini, is also known as “Il Palazzon.” Its first explicit mention appears in Zuanne Canal's will of 1594. The date therefore refers to the will and the mention of the estate.

The Sagra dell’Assunta

An annual tradition in Camponogara is the Sagra dell’Assunta. It includes a food stall, a market and a live orchestra; individual program items may vary from one edition to the next. If you want to plan your stay around the event, check the program for the relevant edition.
