Vazzola offers historical and wine-cultural points of interest: Borgo Malanotte in Tezze di Vazzola, the parish church of San Giovanni Battista, the Raboso tradition and a circular route each represent different themes. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these separately. The town’s history is reflected in the Borgo and the church, while wine takes centre stage at tastings. A southern variant of the circular route also leads to a centuries-old vineyard; the route also passes a memorial site.

Borgo Malanotte and the History of the First World War

The history of Borgo Malanotte is closely linked to the events of the First World War. Today, the Borgo hosts various events and historical reenactments. If you would like to plan your trip around a particular event, check the dates in advance. Along the main avenue, you can see a villa, farmhouses, courtyards, an osteria and a former horse-changing station. Today’s events thus take place alongside architectural traces of past uses.

San Giovanni Battista: Building History and Art

The parish church of San Giovanni Battista adds architectural history and art to this historical perspective. It was built in 1400 on the foundations of an older church; a well-preserved fragment of the floor from this predecessor church was rediscovered. The building thus brings together two periods: its construction in 1400 and the older church on the same site. Three naves divide the church interior, topped by a coffered ceiling. The church also houses works of art by Francesco Beccaruzzi, Francesco da Milano and Giovanni Antonio Fiumani. The naves and ceiling offer architectural points of reference, while the artworks provide a distinct insight into art history.

Raboso: Wine Designation and Tastings

Vazzola and its hamlets have given rise to the specific designation Piave Malanotte DOCG. The wine is made mainly from Raboso Piave, with a smaller proportion of Raboso Veronese. Tenuta Bonotto delle Tezze offers the bookable tasting “Viaggio nel Raboso del Piave,” which presents Raboso del Piave in four different expressions. Reservations are made by email. Another format is Bonotto’s “Scuola di Raboso.” It combines a guided explanation with a convivial tasting, lasts two hours and requires a minimum number of participants. The two offerings have different focuses: “Viaggio” presents four expressions, while “Scuola” combines explanation and tasting in a two-hour format. If you need to take a fixed time frame into account, the duration of “Scuola” provides a useful guide.

Circular Route, Vineyard and Memorial Site

The “A passeggio tra campagne e borghi di Vazzola” circular route is 3.3 kilometres long, takes about an hour and has 6 metres of elevation gain. The approximate duration gives you a general idea of the time required; the distance and elevation gain provide further context. A southern variant leads to a centuries-old Bellussera vineyard. The route also leads to the British War Cemetery in Tezze di Piave. The remains of 355 British soldiers who fell in the First World War rest there. The vineyard and cemetery offer different points of interest: the variant leads through a landscape shaped by agriculture, while the cemetery serves as a memorial to the history of the war.
