San Secondo combines a specific place of remembrance with a variety of walking experiences. The war memorial commemorates a clearly dated event; the Anello di Canoscio walking trail follows the Aggia stream and continues between the railway line and cultivated fields. Route 14 also passes through the village, but approaches along a rural stretch and climbs through chestnut woods. These differences help you consider cultural interests separately from the kind of landscape experience you want.

Places of remembrance in San Secondo

The San Secondo war memorial is a monument with commemorative plaques, dated 4 June 1925. It depicts a soldier covered by a flag and a helmet; below him, an eagle represents victory. The sequence of images links the figure of the soldier with the symbol of victory shown below, giving the monument a clearly defined historical context. Its date and design make it a cultural point of interest alongside the trails that lead through the landscape around San Secondo.

The Church of San Bartolomeo is also connected with a specific historical event. A report dated 19 October 2025 records that the altar of the Holy Spirit was returned to use for worship after a restoration lasting more than a year. If you would like to include the altar in your travel plans, check the church’s current access arrangements before visiting.

Trails along the Aggia and Route 14

The Anello di Canoscio reaches the start of the hamlet of San Secondo via an easy unpaved path that follows the Aggia stream. From the start of the hamlet, the walking trail runs between the railway line and extensive cultivated fields as far as Fabbrecce. Its course can therefore be divided into two sections: first, the path along the stream to the entrance to the village, then the continuation between the railway and the fields. If you choose trails based on their landscape features, the Aggia, the railway line and the cultivated fields are specific landmarks along the way.

Route 14 is titled “The ancient villages and castles of the Upper Tiber Valley” and passes through San Secondo. The section before the climb to the village runs through a distinctly rural landscape; the climb itself leads through chestnut woods. At kilometre 7.2, the route reaches the turnoff towards Monte Santa Maria Tiberina as it enters San Secondo. The kilometre marker is therefore a specific reference point along this route. Compared with the Anello, the focus here is on the rural approach, the wooded climb and the turnoff; the walking trail, by contrast, features the stream and the following section between the railway line and cultivated fields.

Festivals and cultural connections

“San Secondo in festa” was scheduled for 23–25 May 2025 as a popular festival at the Area Verde on Via della Stazione in San Secondo. The dates provide a clearly defined festival occasion. If a festival is important to your trip, check the dates for your travel period. “San Secondo in Festa – Madonna del Buon Consiglio” is a religious and popular festival in San Secondo, with religious, cultural and gastronomic offerings. It adds an event with several themes to the town’s cultural attractions. The comparison brings out different interests: the war memorial represents a specific act of remembrance, while the festival descriptions cover religious, cultural and gastronomic aspects.
