Tiber Landscape and Routes

The Tiber runs through the entire area of Ponte Pattoli. At the same time, the settlement extends partly along the eastern slopes of Monte Tezio and partly along the riverbed. The river and the hills thus offer two distinct landscape settings for a stay. The routes along the Tiber and the historic buildings provide further points of interest as you plan your trip.

The Firenze–Perugia–Assisi route is a trekking and pilgrimage route. Its section that runs along the Tiber leads from Ponte Pattoli via Villa Pitignano to Ponte Felcino. The Ciclovia del Tevere is a different route: near Ponte Pattoli, it crosses the Tiber and then continues along the left bank on a dedicated shared cycling and walking path. When planning your trip, you can compare the route types and itineraries. Check route and trail conditions before setting out.

History Between Bridge and Castle

Historically, the Ponte Pattoli bridge served as a link between different areas. Bridges in the area had served this connecting function since ancient times. Parts of the walls of the former castle are still visible in Ponte Pattoli; how clearly they stand out may vary depending on vegetation and maintenance.

The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta stands outside the old castle walls, which have since disappeared. It was built as a new church between 1787 and 1795. The interior was created in 1931 by painters Piero Migliorati and Nicola Biagini, who came from Perugia. The construction and decoration therefore belong to different periods in the church’s history. There are 136 years between the end of construction and the interior decoration.

Another historic point of interest is Castello Rustichelli. It is located near Ponte Pattoli, along the road that runs through the village of Prozzonchio on the right bank of the Tiber. Its location is therefore tied to the road described in Prozzonchio.

Villa Taticchi: Tower and Guest Offerings

Villa Taticchi is about 100 metres from the left bank of the Tiber. Its core is a medieval tower dating from the 14th century, with four rooms stacked one above the other. The villa is currently protected by Italy’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage. Its riverside location and historic tower provide the estate with both a landscape and an architectural connection.

Today, Villa Taticchi welcomes guests to its restaurant and guest rooms, as well as to events held in the historic residence. The restaurant offers a menu featuring seasonal ingredients and ingredients sourced according to the “Km0” principle. If you are planning a restaurant visit, a guest-room stay, or an event, check the current offerings before your trip.
