Discover Cimbano
Accommodation in Cimbano
Cimbano is a small rural settlement at 369 metres above sea level. Wine, rolling hills and a seasonal event offer visitors different reasons to come: at Madrevite, the focus is on walks and tastings, while Picnicco is weather-dependent and held on weekends during the season. It is therefore worth deciding before your trip whether a wine visit or a specific Picnicco date is the main reason for your visit.
Cimbano in the surrounding hills
Cimbano is one of the localities of Vaiano. Vaiano lies in the hills between Valdichiana and Lake Trasimeno; Cimbano itself is part of the ridge system between Chiugi and Lake Trasimeno. These two geographical references complement each other: Vaiano places the locality within the broader hilly landscape, while the ridge describes its more immediate landscape setting. The elevation of 369 metres adds a specific reference point for the small settlement.
The settlement is also linear in form: between Cimbano and Villastrada, it extends along the main road. Thus, alongside its elevation, the settlement pattern arranged lengthwise along the road shapes the character of this rural area.
Vineyard walks and tastings at Madrevite
At Madrevite in Cimbano, visitor experiences include Umbrian wine tastings, walks through the vineyards and samples of local products. A visit begins with a walk through the vineyards and a hundred-year-old olive grove. The sequence puts the landscape first, with wine and local produce forming another part of the visit.
Alongside wine, Madrevite also produces Fagiolina del Trasimeno, chickpeas and extra virgin olive oil. As booking details may change, check them directly with Madrevite before your visit.
Picnicco: seasonal and weather-dependent
Picnicco at Madrevite in Cimbano is a seasonal event held on Saturdays and Sundays from May to September; whether it goes ahead depends on the weather. The event includes local food trucks, wine, music and entertainment. Picnicco is suitable for families, and the food trucks also offer suitable dishes for small children. The event offers more than wine and food: music and entertainment round out the programme, while the food options for small children make it relevant for families.
Seasonal dates, participating vendors and the programme may change. Before visiting, check the current date and programme before planning your trip around them.
Historical points of interest in the area
The Torre Beccati Quest’altro, also known as Beccati Quello, is located near Cimbano. The people of Perugia built it on a hill opposite. The tower adds a historical point of interest in the surrounding area to the area’s wine and landscape appeal.
A regional hiking event on 3 October 2021 started in Cimbano opposite Cantina Madrevite and ended with a small tasting of the wines produced by this winery. The route involved a total ascent of about 230 metres. This dated hiking event therefore combined a starting point opposite the winery with a concluding wine tasting; it differs from a visit to Madrevite, which begins with a walk through the vineyards and olive grove.
