Brufa brings together local history, sacred art, sculpture and winegrowing. The historic Castel Grifone, the Chiesa di Sant’Ermete and the Joaquin Roca Rey collection give the town different cultural points of reference; at the same time, winegrowing shapes the hilly landscape towards the Tiber. During your stay, you can bring together historical, artistic and landscape themes.

History and Wine Landscape

Brufa is home to the historic Castel Grifone, which was fortified between 1260 and 1276. Over time, winegrowing shaped the landscape, covering Brufa’s hilltop with vineyards towards the Tiber. Brufa is part of the Torgiano–Brufa–Miralduolo–Torgiano hilltop area, where La Strada del Vino e dell’Arte has developed. These two points of reference complement one another: the route’s name connects wine and art, while the vineyards shape the hilly landscape. The historic fortification and the wine-growing surroundings thus stand side by side as different aspects of Brufa.

Church, Art and Music History

The Chiesa di Sant’Ermete has served as Brufa’s parish church since 1569. It preserves an Annunciation attributed to Sebastiano Conca, as well as an 18th-century organ by Fedeli. The church also contains the tomb of the musician Andrea Angelini Bontempi (1624–1702). The dates span the parish’s function since 1569, Bontempi’s life dates and a musical instrument from the 18th century. The attributed Annunciation also extends the church’s cultural references to painting. Parish history, music and art thus meet in one named place.

The Joaquin Roca Rey Collection

The collection of sculptor Joaquin Roca Rey offers another facet. His heirs donated the collection of works to the community in 2009. It comprises around 30 works in marble and metal and is housed in Brufa’s former primary school building. The two art references differ in focus: the Chiesa di Sant’Ermete brings together painting and music history, while the collection focuses on sculpture and the materials marble and metal. Throughout the year, the Proloco di Brufa organizes guided tours and initiatives to promote the sculptures. If you plan a guided tour, check the specific dates and arrangements before travelling.

Hike and Brufa in Festa

A traditional ecological hike organized by the Pro Loco di Brufa was announced for 1 May 2026. Check future dates again each year. At Brufa in Festa, the Pro Loco di Brufa offers a selection of typical foods and wines; check the specific selection for each edition. This gives you two distinct points to check when planning: the date of the hike and the food and wine offering at that edition of the Festa. The historical references to the church and collection are independent of these events and help you understand Brufa beyond a single event date.
