Trequanda: Historic Town Center and Cultural Landscape
Accommodation in Trequanda
Trequanda sits on a hill between Val d’Asso and Val di Chiana. The town offers several distinct themes to help you choose your destination: a well-preserved historic town center, buildings with distinctive architectural features, a cultural landscape officially included in a national register, and a five-kilometer route. You can tailor your stay to local history, the landscape, or a specific activity.
Historic Town Center and Buildings
The historic town center is well preserved and partly surrounded by walls. It is entered through the surviving Porta al Sole, also known as Porta al Leccio. The Church of Santi Pietro ed Andrea is Romanesque. Castello Cacciaconti has a tall white-stone tower and crenellated walls; it also includes an Italian garden. The gate, church, and castle offer distinct architectural points of reference in the townscape.
Torre del Molino a Vento is a dovecote dating from the late 18th century. It contains around 500 terracotta nesting boxes, arranged in a checkerboard pattern. The pattern and material distinguish the tower from the white-stone architecture of Castello Cacciaconti. Archaeological finds are also part of Trequanda’s history: they date from between the 3rd and 1st centuries BC. This spans a period from those finds to the dovecote of the late 18th century.
Cultural Landscape and Route
The Paesaggio Policulturale di Trequanda was officially included in Italy’s national register of historic rural landscapes by a decree in February 2018. The Trequanda area is also part of the Città dell’Olio network. Those interested in rural landscapes and olive oil can therefore find two distinct regional points of interest.
A five-kilometer route starts and ends at the parking lot on Via Cacciaconti. The same route is estimated to take two hours on foot or one hour by bicycle. This lets you compare the time required directly with your preferred mode of transport, without confusing this route with a different one.
Festivities and Seasonal Offerings
The 2026 program of festivities in honor of Blessed Bonizzella included a pilgrimage to Belsedere on Sunday, May 3, as a traditional event. This date applies to the 2026 edition; if you plan a trip around a festival date, check the dates for the relevant edition.
The Piscina Comunale “Del Sole” is a seasonal municipal facility. It offers relaxation, swimming lessons, and numerous summer activities for children and young people. If you want to include the pool in your travel plans, check the current seasonal information and lesson dates in advance.
If you’re looking for a hotel in Trequanda, you can plan your trip around these different highlights: local history and buildings, the cultural landscape and route, or a seasonal offering. The route provides a specific time estimate; pool activities and a festival date, by contrast, each add a seasonal or date-specific consideration to your plans.
