Sant'ermo: Wine, Walks and Local History
Accommodation in Sant'ermo
Sant'ermo lies in a hilly Tuscan landscape among vineyards, olive groves and cultivated fields. Three highlights can help you decide where to go: nature walks, historical details of the village and a wine tour. You can weigh up your interests: nature in the hills, local history or insights into winemaking.
Hills, Vineyards and Walks
The hills around Sant'ermo are ideal for nature walks among vineyards, olive groves and small woods. Cultivated fields are also part of this hilly landscape. This makes walking an integral part of the area's agricultural setting. If you enjoy spending time outdoors when you travel, this combination of hills, vineyards and olive groves offers a concrete point of reference when choosing your destination.
In connection with an event on 6 April 2026, the Antica Via dell’Acqua was described as a 7-kilometre walking route starting at Piazza della Chiesa in Sant'ermo. If you plan to follow the route at a later date, check the latest route details before setting out.
Local History and Historical Details
The Santuario della Madonna de’ Monti dates back to the 19th century. The village's historic streets are another distinctive feature: they are still paved with stone. Sant'ermo can therefore be viewed through two different historical details: the religious building dates to a specific century, while the cobbled streets are a surviving feature of the village's appearance.
The washhouses had a stone cistern that filled naturally, as well as two basins for washing and rinsing clothes. One basin was larger and the other smaller. Such specific structural features make the area's former infrastructure and its use easier to understand. The cistern served as a water reservoir.
The Spring
A spring that originally supplied all the village's families with drinking water is still active today.
A second painting made by a local craft workshop bears the old inscription “Via delle palanche”.
The “Scala dei Pensieri” was inaugurated on a Saturday, 30 August, at Piazza della Chiesa in Sant'ermo.
Wine Tour at Cantina Volpi
The Cantina Volpi wine tour includes a visit to the cellar. There, the winemaking process is explained, from the delivery of the grapes through to bottling. The tour ends with a wine tasting at Enoteca RemAldo. The experience therefore includes both explanations of the individual production stages and the tasting that follows.
If you are interested in wine and how it is made, this tour is a specific activity to include in your travel plans. Confirm the current visitor arrangements before booking.
