Cinquale combines the coast and beaches with cycling routes, a coastal wetland and traces of history. The coastline is less than one kilometre long. When choosing a hotel, you can consider which of these aspects of the town you would like to shape your stay: the beach, a bike ride, nature watching or the region’s history.

Beaches and access to the sea

Cinquale has equipped beaches, and the sea in front of the town is clear. Green Beach offers accessible routes for people with mobility impairments. It has reserved parking spaces, two Joob chairs to assist with getting around, and a walkway leading to the sea. Beach services may be seasonal, and facilities may change. If these facilities are important to your plans, check their current status before your visit.

Cycling routes with different itineraries

The “Biking the Via Francigena [family ride]” route is a 39 km loop that passes through Cinquale. It follows both EuroVelo 5 and the Via Francigena. Another route, “Il Mare Apuano [family ride],” follows EuroVelo 5 along the Apuan coast from Cinquale to Marina di Carrara and back. Marina di Carrara is the named destination for the return trip.

The “Lago di Porta – un’oasi di Natura [family ride]” route starts and ends in Cinquale and follows the banks of the Versilia River and Lago di Porta. The descriptions thus offer different points of reference when choosing a ride: a 39 km loop through Cinquale, the waterfront towards Marina di Carrara, or the banks of the river and lake.

The Tyrrhenian cycle and pedestrian path is connected to the path in Forte dei Marmi; the connection was reported on at its inauguration in 2021. The “Walk” monument by artist Federico Benedetti also stands on Cinquale’s waterfront, on the border with Forte dei Marmi.

Nature at Lago di Porta

Lago di Porta in Capanne-Prato-Cinquale is the northernmost coastal wetland in Tuscany. The area is home to the very rare and endangered butterfly Lycaena dispar. The rare European bird, the Eurasian bittern (Botaurus stellaris), can also be seen at Lago di Porta. The wetland therefore offers a nature-focused perspective for planning a trip, distinct from the beaches and waterfront promenades.

History and routes in the surrounding area

The fortified tower at the mouth of Lago di Porta Beltrame in Cinquale was built in the 16th century by the Medici to defend against raids by Saracen pirates. The hikes along the Gothic Line near Cinquale also bring history to life: monuments, fortifications from that period and historical information help visitors trace places and events. From Cinquale, routes to Monte Carchio in the Apuan Alps Regional Park are reachable in a short time. Alongside the coast, historical sites and routes in the Apuan Alps are also options to consider for your stay.

Thermal baths and harbour

The Terme della Versilia in Cinquale is a wellness centre and thermal bath complex established following the discovery of bromide- and iodide-rich salt water and a peat deposit. Its facilities include a thermal pool. Services may change; check the current offerings before your visit. The tourist harbour of Cinquale is on the right bank of the Versilia River.
