The 8 km Tempagnano–Torre–San Graziano–Vetrianello–Loppeglia cycling route passes through Torre. Church art, architectural history and scenic viewpoints offer further topics to consider when planning your trip. The reference points vary: the cycling route has a specified length, while the cultural sites are distinguished by their architectural forms, materials and dates.

Cycling Route and Other Paths

As route conditions can change, check the current condition of the cycling route before setting out. An ancient mule track connects Frantoio and Torre in the Tempagnano area. If you plan to walk it, check the condition of the path beforehand. The road through Tempagnano connects the Borgo a Mozzano area with Versilia via the San Graziano Pass.

Churches, Architecture and Sacred Art

In nearby Tempagnano, the Church of San Prospero stands at the foot of a medieval crenellated bell tower. It houses 17th-century paintings, a recently restored 15th-century silver processional cross and valuable items of sacred furnishings.

In Valdottavo, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul contains structural elements dating from the late 11th or early 12th century. In Diecimo, the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta has an interior with three naves separated by two-tone pillars; its features include a baptismal font and an ambo pulpit. The three-nave layout describes the organization of the space, while the baptismal font and ambo pulpit are specific furnishings.

The Church of Saints Giusto and Clemente in Partigliano preserves a late medieval wooden Annunciation group. Most of it is attributed to the unknown Maestro di Partigliano, who was active from the late 14th to the early 15th century. Sacred art here spans spatial layout and architectural history, as well as painting, silverwork and wood sculpture, with different materials and periods serving as reference points.

Chapels, Forest and Panoramic Views

At the San Graziano Pass, surrounded by chestnut and pine trees, stands an old chapel dedicated to the Madonna della Neve. The Romitorio di San Bartolomeo is a single-nave church with an apse, set in an ancient holm oak forest near the former Bargiglio fortress, which was demolished in 1373.

The Torre del Bargiglio offers 360-degree panoramic views: the vista stretches from the peaks of the Apuan Alps across the Serchio Valley and the fortresses of the Garfagnana to the plain of Lucca. The chapel, forest church and viewpoint each offer a different landscape—from the pass among chestnut and pine trees, to the holm oak forest, to wide views over peaks, valley and plain.

Chestnuts and Rural Traditions

Farina di Neccio DOP is made from chestnuts and represents the traditional crafts, flavors and rural traditions of this area. This connection adds a regional chestnut tradition to the themes of churches and historic routes.
