Viticcio: Beaches, Coastal Paths and Views
Accommodation in Viticcio
Viticcio lies on a coastline where small beaches, coastal paths and water-based activities offer different ways to plan your day. If you are looking for a hotel in Viticcio, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: would you like to include beach areas near the village, views from the paths, or water-based activities in your plans? The area offers specific points of interest, from Spiaggia di Ghiaia to the Secca del Viticcio dive site.
Beaches and Coastal Landscape
The beach area of Viticcio includes five small public beaches right by the village. The tiny Spiaggia di Ghiaia lies below the houses along the Percorso del Viticcio. You can reach Spiaggia delle Alghe via a path that begins to the right of Ristorante Da Giacomino; check the route on site before your visit. Beach access conditions may change seasonally. The Golfo di Viticcio is enclosed by the Enfola peninsula. It is a relatively sheltered, unspoilt coastal area surrounded by Mediterranean scrub.
Coastal Paths and Views
Along the Percorso del Viticcio, trail 249 runs parallel to the coast, while the Enfola route offers views of the Golfo del Viticcio. From Viticcio, you can see Cape Enfola, Monte Capanne and the Golfo di Viticcio. On particularly clear days, Capraia and Corsica can also be seen in the distance. In Viticcio, three paths lead down to the sea; check trail conditions on site before your visit.
Snorkelling, Diving and Boat Trips
The seabeds off the pebble beaches of Enfola and Viticcio are suitable for snorkelling and scuba diving; sea conditions vary and should be taken into account when planning. The Secca del Viticcio in the Gulf of Enfola is a separate dive site. Its summit lies at a depth of 28 metres, so the dive is recommended for advanced divers. Octopuses and moray eels live in the crevices of the Secca, although sightings are not guaranteed. The recommendation for advanced divers applies specifically to the dive at the Secca; the information on snorkelling and scuba diving, by contrast, refers to the seabeds off the pebble beaches. The continuous coastal area of Enfola and Viticcio can be explored by kayak, pedal boat and boat. A boat excursion in the Golfo di Viticcio can be booked by reservation for up to eight people aboard the Luna III. Check in advance which equipment and excursions are currently available.
Getting There by Bus
Bus route 7 runs from Portoferraio via Le Ghiaie, Padullela, Capobianco and Sottobomba to Viticcio, then continues to Bivio Ablereto and returns to Portoferraio. As a summer route, it operates from 11 June to 14 September. Check the timetable for your travel dates before departure.
Former Residents
Viticcio was once inhabited by fishermen and farmers. This history of the village adds to the coastal town’s character.
